Online Discussion Forum (Pre-Exercise for Tasks 1 and 2)


You are required to read the article for task 1 and task 2 respectively, and share and discuss
your understandings, views, and perspectives of the article with each other on-line. The
purpose of this forum is to create an opportunity for you to intellectually interact and engage
with one another regarding each article (for task 1 and 2) in a critical and analytical manner.
Please note, no marks are allocated to the supportive discussion forum.

Once you have participated and engaged with one another on-line, you are required to
individually write and submit your critical analysis as outlined below.

Task 1: Critical Analysis of Academic Article #1


Bush, T. 2007, 'Educational leadership and management: Theory, policy and practice', South

You are required to read the above article, and critically discern, analyze, and convey the key
points and ideas in a scholarly manner. This requires you to think critically about the subject
matter; connect the ideas with concepts; articulate your analytical ideas; and the
significance/importance/relevance of the article. It is important to remember that academic
writing is not about providing a summary/description nor is it about criticizing, rather it is
about critically discussing, engaging, and academically conveying your analysis in a
scholarly manner. Your ability to question, extend, probe, and reflect will be valued. Ensure
you provide accurate referencing throughout.

Task 2: Critical Analysis of Academic Article #2

Task 3: Written Task Management, Leadership, and Change
You are required to consider a situation/issue for change in your school context from the
perspectives of educational management and leadership theories. You are required to
propose how you will manage change to improve the situation/issue in your school context.
You can address any situation/issue at the classroom or departmental or school level. You are
required to use an academic style of writing using appropriate referencing as plagiarism is an
offence.

Assessment Criteria Marks


1. Comprehensive use of leadership and organisational management
theories, based on relevant readings, to justify the need for change in a 20
given situation at school.

2. In-depth use of at least one leadership or management theory to drive


the different phases of the change proposed. 20

3. A critical appraisal of the effectiveness of the theory/theories used in


effecting the change. 20
