Peacock Classroom Rules: y y y y y All students must follow all directions the first time they are given. All students must raise their hands if they wish to speak. All students must use appropriate language and behavior at all times. No foul language, insults, cutting up, or other behavior that is in any way disruptive. Respect all people, all ideas, all the time. Never make excuses.
Our Class Culture: Students in 6th grade World Cultures will learn the importance of being a productive, fair, understanding member of the human race. During the year we will study various religions, customs, societies, and peoples from around the globe. Students will learn how their location in Houston relates to the rest of the world, as well as the skills they need to begin understanding the world around them. Procedures: y y y y y y Students must come to class prepared each and every day. Students are expected to have a writing utensil (pencil or pen) each day. Students will maintain a well-organized notebook during the school year. They are responsible for keeping it up-to-date. This is part of their grade! At the beginning of each period, students will enter the class silently, get their interactive notebook (provided) from the bookshelf, and begin work on the warm-up exercise. After finishing the warm-up exercise, students will sit quietly and complete an independent reading exercise without disrupting other students. The bulk of class time will be spent on classroom exercises, short lectures with note taking, group work, and in class activities. Homework will be given for additional practice and to help students study for upcoming tests.
Discipline: Students are required to follow teacher instructions and all campus rules while at Black Middle School. Not following class rules in 6th grade World Cultures will result in in-class punishment (isolation, essay-writing), phone calls home, after-school detention, or referral. Teaching students to be good citizens means teaching them to behave as good citizens. Absences and Make-Up Work: A make-up work tray is provided in my classroom for students who are absent. Students must check the tray on the day they return and finish the assignment for homework. Students should ask me questions if they are confused about makeup work or instructions. Contacting Me: Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or if you would just like to check-in on your student. I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
