Dosage 50 mg T.I.M

Action Potentiates the effects of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitte r, depresses the CNS. Produces skeletal muscle relaxation by inhibiting spinal polysnaptic afferent pathways. Has an anticonvulsant property due to enhanced presynaptic inhibition.Thera peutic effects: relief of anxiety, sedation, amnisia, skeletal muscle relaxation. Decreased seizure activity

Side Effect/ Adverse Reaction CNS: drowsiness, dysarthria, slurred speech, tremor, transient amnesia, fatigue, ataxia, headache, insomnia, paradoxical anxiety, hallucinations, minor changes in EEG patterns. CV: hypotension, CV collapse, bradycardia. EENT: diplopia, blurred vision, nystagmus.GI: nausea, constipation, diarrhea with rectal form. GU: incontinence, urine retention.Hemat: neutropenia. Hepat: jaundice. Resp:respiratory depression, apnea. Skin: rash. Other: altered libido, physical or psychological dependence, pain, phlebitis at injection site

Nursing Consideration _Monitor periodic hepatic, renal, and hematopoietic function studies in patients receiving repeated or prolonged therapy. _Monitor elderly patients for dizziness, ataxia, mental status changes. Patients are at an increased risk for falls. _Use of this drug may lead to abuse and addiction. Don't withdraw drug abruptly after long-term use; withdrawal symptoms may occur.

Patient Teachings _Warn patient to avoid activities that require alertness and good coordination until effects of drug are known. _Tell patient to avoid alcohol while taking drug he feels consistent pain relief. __Advise Patient to notify health care professional if pregnancy is suspected or planned. _ Advice patient to avoid activities requiring alertness until response to medication is known.
