The Fire Chief position is a member of the CalPERS Safety Retirement Plan, 3%@50. The Chief’s salary range is currently under review and expected to increase January 1, 2008.
Under the administrative direction of the City Manager, the Fire Chief plans, organizes and directs the activities and operations of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, fire prevention, training, emergency preparedness, public services and programs, code enforcement and dispatching; Fire Chief is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of the Fire Department. The Fire Chief leads the Volunteer Fire Fighters, and the elected Volunteer Fire Officers, supervises office support staff, and acts as the technical advisor to the City Manager and City Council in matters pertaining to fire service and code enforcement programs and activities, and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Abilities and Experience
The desirable candidate for the position will have at least five years of increasingly responsible experience as a firefighter and have attained the rank of Captain or Chief Officer including experience in Fire Suppression and commercial and industrial Fire Prevention. The successful candidate will also have the proven ability to lead volunteers toward common goals.
