from Time to grow up Telemachos! Nov 10, 2017 4:12pm

In books 1-4, Telemachus shows faltering signs of his transition into

manhood. Telemachus begins to take a stand in his fathers house.
He directly tells off his mothers suiters, but unfortunately, he does
not make much of an impression on them and they mostly ignore him. He
becomes determined to find more information about his father, and sails to
Pilos to see Nestor and Menelaus, hoping that they might be able to help
him. This is not what an irresponsible boy would do, but the actions of a
young man becoming himself.
The Bible gives us explicit instruction on what it is to be a man. Let no
one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love,
faith, and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe (Timothy
4:12). If a man looks up to you, if you set an example amongst the mature,
you can consider yourself amongst them, irrespective of your age. Simply
put, I believe a boy becomes a man when he is told that he is one by a
respected elder, just as Telemachus was told by his father. Manhood is
gained through trust, honorable behavior, leadership and strength of
character. Gods guidelines clearly marks the path to attainment.
