My name is Matt Scott and I am 14 years old. So what do I think

body image is? Let me see if I can put this in words so that you
can understand. Well, basically I think that body image is all
about how you see yourself, your body, based on what you can
see and also on what other people around you tell you. If they tell
you good things about your body, then youll probably have a good
body image, but if they dont, well, then I think that you probably
wont feel all that good about your body. I dont know about you,
but I think that teens today are subject to a lot of pressure in
terms of their body image. The media really bombards us with
what we should look like if we want to be cool. Nowadays, what
this really means is that you have to be well built if youre a boy.
You should have a few muscles which means that you probably
have to work out to look cool. If youre a girl, well, then things
change a bit. You must be slim. At least thats what were
constantly being told by the people around us and the people on
TV and in the magazines that we read. Im not sure that this is
really fair, but this is what happens nonetheless!

Jane: Hi Kate. Yes, its me.
Kate: Thank God. I almost panicked. Jane, I really need your
help. Its about what I should wear to Toms party this
weekend. Im really stuck and worried about this. I dont
know what to wear. What are you going to wear? Have you
decided yet?
Jane: Relax Kate. I havent really thought about that but I think
that Im going to wear my skinny jeans and that black
tightish top that I got for my birthday. I think that that makes
me look really thin and cool. What do you think?
Kate: Oh yes, you look really good in that. The problem is that I
dont have anything quite as cool as that. What am I going to
do? What will everyone say if I dont wear something trendy?
Theyll all tease me. I cant even bear the thought of that!
Jane: Relax Kate. Come on. Well find a solution. I know! Why
dont you wear that short pink dress that you have? The one
that we bought at the shopping centre together. You look
really hot in pink and that dress is really cool.
Kate: I cant wear that dress because I dont have any shoes to
go with it. Oh dear. What am I going to do?
Jane: Hang on Kate. My mum has just bought some shoes that
will look really good with that dress. Ill ask her if I can
borrow them.
Kate: Ok then, ask her and call me back. Soon! I cant take this
much longer.
Jane: Ok then. Speak to you in a minute. Bye then.
