Lesson Title: A is for Art Grade Level: Pre K

S & S Statements: This is an introductory lesson on oil pastels and how to properly blend them into
a single, solid layer as well as a quick and simple drawing technique that can be
done through the use of etching.

Concepts and Skills: Students will be able to develop accurate oil pastel blending knowledge and
use etching techniques in order to cleanly produce drawings.

Vocabulary: Blending

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective): Students will learn to successfully blend oil pastels
as well as display effective use of etching techniques to display images that correctly correspond to
the letters in their name

Objectives: Given oil pastels, students will successfully display technical blending knowledge in
order to produce a solid background layer for their drawings.

Given examples of various things that start with different letters of the alphabet,
students will be able to accurately identify and produce an etched
drawing of objects that pertain to the same letters in their name
using Popsicle sticks

Assessment Criteria:
1. Students will be able to cleanly mix and blend oil pastels
2. Students will be able to successfully display etching techniques in their drawings
