CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

The Philippines is well-known for being fond of eating, grocery shopping, basically everything that

revolves around food and buying for households. This is one of the good reason why putting up a small grocery

store business. Mini-grocery store has limited products, unlike a grocery store it has many products that a

consumer can have. Also a mini-grocery store has sales area of 2,000 square feet while the grocery store or

supermarket has sales area of 20,000 to 170,000 square feet. Mini-grocery store often offer non-perishable good,

it is one of the best business that a Filipino can build if they are working for a small capital business.

The researchers want to know how much income a mini-grocery store has, the expenses and their

sales. These questions are relevant to the researchers because they want to know if having a mini-grocery store

is profitable.

The objective of this study is to determine the income of a mini-grocery store monthly in Antipolo,

City. Answering the research questions will help the researchers to find the solutions for the research problem.

The scope of this study requires the sales, net income, and expenses of a mini-grocery store for

the month of January to September 2017 specifically in baranggay san roque Antipolo, City.

This study could benefit the researchers since they are ABM students who have the potential to

be a business managers in the near future. This research could also benefit the citizens of Antipolo, City who

plan to have a mini-grocery store. It will be more accessible to the residents of the place incase they decided to

build a mini-grocery store. The place will also benefit in the study, when many residents engage in building a

mini-grocery store because of its being profitable.


CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Review of literature

According to Michael Flanagan Opening a mini-grocery can be a lucrative business venture, especially
if you live in a city with little competition. When people are looking for specialty foods or ingredients that can't
be found at the corner store or neighborhood supermarket, they typically head to small grocers, also called
mini-grocery stores. Such retail establishments sell food and items that are uncommon or not carried by bigger
stores. To set up your mini-grocery store you'll need to address the legalities, find a location, acquire
equipment, choose suppliers and advertise your business.
Michael Flanagan explained the role of a mini-grocery store in the city, and what are the

characteristics of a mini-grocery store that a grocery store or a sari-sari store dont have.

According to Small Business Ideas Mini grocery stores have ideal locations within residential areas. They sell
essential commodities that are mainly house hold items. Some stores stock specialty items, fresh food and
essential ingredients for households. Mini grocery store stock an impressive range of different items to meet
their customers demand.They also reduce travel time providing an essential service to the host community.
Opening a mini grocery store is lucrative and slightly challenging. There are a few things you need to put in
place before starting the business.
They discuss the advantage of having a mini-grocery store because of the goods it has that every
consumer can afford because of its low price.

According to the Bureau of Internal Revenue, owners of small variety stores, and other marginal

income and earners (MIEs) are still liable to pay tax. Under revenue memorandum Circular No. 7-2014, the tax

authority states that MIEs are liable to pay the income tax, but are exempted from the value added tax and

from the business tax The tax exemption certificate or ruling must explicitly recognize the grant of

exemptions as well as the corresponding exemption from with holding tax the BLK said in the circular.
BIR claimed that marginal income earners including the small variety stores are still responsible

in paying tax. Under Revenue Memorandum Circular no. 7-2014 individuals who have claimed to have

exceptions from certain taxes should be secure certification from the BIR for such exemptions.

The system approach (Input, Process, and Input) was used to describe the conceptual framework of the

study. As shown in this figure, the input consist the profile of the owner, of a mini- grocery store in Antipolo,

City. The Process compose of identifying the financial information of a mini-grocery store including the

income, liabilities, and other expenses. And the output will furnish a justifying analysis and explanation if

having a mini-grocery store is profitable that is based on the net income gathered from the owner.

Chapter III

The researchers will conduct an interview of the two mini-grocery store in Baranggay San Isidro,

Antipolo City from the months of January to September year of 2017. The researchers will include the Income

Statement based on the following questions:

-How much is the sales of a mini-grocery store from January to September 2017

-How much is their expenses for the mont if January to September 2017.

-What is their starting markup.

The researchers will present an Income Statement based on the data collected given by the samples.

The sales and expenses of the two mini-grocery store will be presented graphically.

The researchers will explain the data based on the graph of the two mini-grocery store for the month

of January to September year 2017 and will present an Income Statement of the two mini-grocery store.

Chapter IV

The graph below shows the Sales and Expenses of Rickys mini-grocery store for the month of January

to September year 2017.

The graph below shows the Sales and Expenses of Jondeth mini-grocery store for the month of January

to September year 2017.


The graphs shows the changes of the sales and expenses of the two mini-grocery store. The highest

sale of two mini-grocery store in the year of 2017 from January to September is the month of January. While

the month of June has the lowest sales from the months of January to September.

As the owners of Ricky and Jondeths store said that January has the highest sales because most of

their customers buy more products in this month to prevent high impact in increasing of price in the market. In

the month of June, the sales decreased caused by the increased price in the market.

Chapter V

Summary

The overriding purpose of this study was to determine the income of a mini-grocery store in a month in

Antipolo City for the month of January to September 2017. To accomplish the goal, reaching the prior

condition goals were needed. Determining what mini-grocery store means and how much is the the monthly

income for January to September in the year of 2017.

An interview instrument was conducted by the researches. The owners of a mini-grocery store in

Antipolo City was used to be the respondents. The researchers asked for their monthly sales and expenses

from January to September 2017. Though the use of interview instrument developed for this study, data were

collected which is direct to the research problem posted in the first chapter of the study.

Conclusion

The ability of gaining profit in having a mini-grocery store was determined in response to the research

problem of the study. The income of the two mini-grocery store from January to September 2017 shows that

their business is gaining more than half of their expenses and their income is half of their sales or more than. It

means that they gain more profit in having a mini-grocery store.

To be successful in managing a mini-grocery store the potential businessmen should follow the rules in

building a business in that case the rest will follow. And to be knowledgable in running a business will be

helpful in order to be successful.
