“Doesn’t the words personal space mean any…?”
Humans, the inconsiderate bastards, how can they be so uncaring about our environment, the earth? I mean all they do is waste water, litter excessively and emit toxic fumes into the atmosphere. And as if things weren’t bad enough they’ve added cutting down hundreds of trees a year to the list. Do they like seeing me suffer? Do they find joy in me having to work so hard? Is this all a game to them? It’s not like their making my job any easier. Being Protector of the Earth is a tiring job. I have to change the seasons, keep nature in balance, care for all of earth’s forests and plant life not to mention purify the air four times a year just so the humans can breathe without suffocating although the thought is very tempting. If you think that’s easy you’re out of your mind. You could call me Mother Nature, but to me Mother Nature sounds like a name you’d give a thirty year old woman, blonde, tan, wearing flowers and flowing cloth with three kids. There was no way in hell I was going to be called that, so the Witches Council helped me vote it out. Thank goodness for that. The only time I am called Mother Nature is when I appear before the I.S.C; the Immortal Society Council. The I.S.C is the rulers of the immortal world, which is now fused with the human world, sadly. They are the immortals who have been gifted with the ability to give and take powers by Aradia the goddess of witches; you could call them immortal royalty. I got my powers directly from Aradia unlike most witches and warlocks. She visited me once when I was a little girl and told me that I was going to be the most powerful which there is beside herself. I though she was lying to me, but then I though why would the goddess of witches want to lie to me so to prove the truth she marked me with a leaf in the palm of my hand. Every time I would use my powers it would glow and sparkle in green. It would always remind me that I was special.
I had been talking to myself like this all morning I was getting ready to go see my best friends Trista and Neva. I was getting my new car today. I had my mind set on a Porsche Carrera Gt. It was beautiful when I saw it for the first time on the internet and knew I had to have it. It’s totally my type of car, elegant yet flashy, expensive yet affordable—— well for me——foreign and fast. I’ve got a thing for fast cars. Today felt like a good day so I decided wear green, I always (well most of the time) wear green when I’m happy. I threw on my green floral off the shoulder tee, skinny jeans and my favourite pair of green stilettos and grabbed my bag and was out the door. I walked down the little path from my house over to the bus stop. I stood, leaning myself against the bus shed. I tilted my head toward the sky and looked at the clouds, in less than no time I was daydreaming. I was so caught up in day dreaming I hadn’t realised the bus had stopped in front of me. The sharp sudden honk of the horn snapped me out of my day dream. Embarrassing, I thought as I stepped onto the bus. Two girls were huddled together snickering. I threw them a nasty look as I passed. All the good window seats were gone so I went to the back seat. In my head I debated whether I should listen to my ipod or read. I decided to read, naturally. Lucky for me I still had Eclipse stuffed in my bag. I know I read it three times already but it’s my favourite of all in the saga. Especially when Jacob says ‘The clouds I can handle but I can’t fight with an eclipse.’ It just hits this button and the tears just start flowing. Lucky for me I won’t be crying for the next sixty or sixty-five pages or so. Last time I stopped Edward was telling Riley the truth about Victoria. I opened the book to where the bookmark sat snugly and began reading. This is one of my favourite scenes in the book because it’s where Riley comes into play. The movie was even more amazing and the guy who acts as Riley is hot. I was half way through the fight between Victoria, Riley, Edward and Seth
when I felt the strange sensation of someone breathing down my neck. First I thought I was just imagining things but the strange sensation persisted. I turned to see the person who doesn’t know what the words personal space mean. “Um doesn’t personal space mean any…?” God he’s gorgeous. I stared into the most gorgeous brown eyes to ever grace the face of the earth. They had tints of gold, green and blue in them like a kaleidoscope of colour. His hair was dark brown, tousled and thick. His skin was a pale gold with soft cheekbones. The faintest hint of a smile played around the corners of his mouth. He smelt like milk chocolate and mint. My mouth went bone dry and I was completely speechless. My brain wasn’t functioning like it should, it was all scrambled. I imagined myself my eyes wide and my mouth open. Snap out of it my mind yelled it’s just a guy. I was only like four inches away from him and the heat that radiated from him was undeniably intoxicating. That meant two thing he was human——humans and immortals can be differentiated easily but only by immortals (humans don’t notice as much as we do) humans radiate heat, warmth, and immortals radiate coldness——and he’s totally off limits. Immortal law number two section four:
NO IMMORTAL OF ANY SORT IS TO ENGAGE OR ASSOCIATE THEMSELVES WITH HUMANS IN ANY FORM OF A RELATION SHIP EXCEPT FOR FRIENDSHIP. THIS IS TO MAINTAIN THE SECRECY OF OUR WORLD.
It sucks yeah but it’s for our own protection. With that my brain descrambled itself and was working fine. “Oh I’m terribly sorry; I just wanted to see the book you were reading.” As if his looks weren’t enough to dazzle me out of my senses, he had the sweetest English accent I’d ever heard. My breath hitched itself in my throat.
“Are you okay?” He said and his hand reached out towards me slowly, he grasped the hair that was dangling in front of my face and tucked it behind my ear. My heart knocked in my chest and my pulse was racing. His hand remained at my ear and my heart was pounding. I didn’t understand why this felt so intimate, he just touched my hair. Abruptly his hand had disappeared and bizarrely I wanted it back at my ear. He waved his hand in front of my face, he must have said something. Words returned to me and I could finally speak. “Huh?” I said. “I said can you hear me?” He rebutted in perfect English. “Um yeah, I…I…I can hear you.” I stuttered more than said. “I’m sorry for invading your personal space earlier,” he bent his head “It was wrong of me, I shouldn’t have.” “No it’s…okay. I was overreacting. It was…” “No it is my fault. Again I’m sorry. So what book are you reading?” he asked lifting his head and smiling. His smile blinded me like a one hundred watt bulb. I had to blink repeatedly to be able to see again. Something about him seemed so familiar. I just didn’t know what. “Eclipse,” I said my voice shaking, “one of my favourite books.” “Really, I’ve seen the movie it’s quite amazing. Have you watched it yet?” he asked. “Yeah, of course,” I said smiling “my favourite scene is the fight sequence in the clearing. It’s so epic.” “Weird, that’s my favourite part too. The whole thing is so action packed.” He said chuckling. “I almost forgot I didn’t introduce myself, if my mother were here she’d knock me right side up my head. Demetrius Barreiro,” he held out his hand “but you can call me Demetri.” So that’s why he seems familiar. He’s that Barreiro kid. He looks so much like his father. Same brown eyes, same hair, very similar. I met the guy once and was totally appalled. He was all about work and goals and achievements. He didn’t seem like a family person or a father.
He’s the kind of father who puts work first and family where ever they can fit in. He wasn’t the kind of person to let loose, cut back and have fun. And another reason why I’m upset with him is that he destroyed my woods to build his companies. I worked really hard building that whole place from scratch, not a blade of grass was even mounting from the ground to give me an edge. Sickening really, I could never live with someone like that. “Terra, Terra Richard, nice to meet you.” I placed my hand in his. Astonishingly he flipped my hand over and kissed the back of my hand. His lips were warm against my hand. I gasped and my heart fluttered wildly in my chest. He smiled, amused at my reaction. “Pleasure,” My hand melted in his I had to look at it to make sure it was still in tact. I pulled my hand away. “So have you read the books?” I said desperate for conversation. “No actually. I’m not the reading type. Not that I don’t read it’s just that I have to be in the mood and the book has to be really interesting. I’m more of the writing type myself.” I looked at him stunned. “Really, what kind of writing do you do?” I asked. “Poetry,” He answered plainly. My mouth dropped open. What guy who lives in California writes poetry? This was a first. “Wow I would’ve never guessed,” still stunned I asked “what inspires you to write?” “Nature and the environment, mostly flowers. It’s kind of girly and embarrassing…” “No it’s not. It’s really great I mean guys don’t like writing poetry a lot around here or anything for that matter. They don’t even look at anything with words on it besides a menu or a score board. It’s sweet. I’d like to read some of your poems sometime.” I said smiling. He smiled back. “Thanks. And sure, that’s if we ever see each other again.” I looked out the window and saw that we were nearing my destination. “I’m getting off soon.” I said just a little sad. “Where are you headed?”
“Mocha Café, I’m meeting some friends there.” “Me too, mind if I walk with you?” he asked shyly. “Sure.” I pressed the bell and waited for the bus to stop I got up, Demetri not far behind me. The bus stop was two blocks away so we wouldn’t have a long way to walk. We walked in silence but it was a comfortable silence. We stopped in front of the café both looking down at the ground. This was the awkward silence. I looked up, flipped back my dark brown hair that rested on my shoulders. “Do you want to join us?” I looked inside searching for Trista and Neva. Sure enough they had already spotted us and were ogling at us, their mouths wide open. Demetri leaned over and looked through the window and saw them. “Are they going to be like that the entire time?” He said his face concerned. I laughed. “Probably yeah, they always go gooey eyes over really cute guys.” He raised an eye brown. Then I realised what I said. “Not that I think you’re really cute or anything, I…I mean it’s not that you’re not attractive, I mean um…I’m not attract…” He caught my chin in his hand silencing me and forced me to stare up at him. “I understand. Not to be rude or anything but I think I’ll pass.” I only smiled at him. “If I were you I’d say the same,” I shook my head “They’re very nice once you get to know them though. I think we should go inside now, it’s kind of weird just standing here.” I reached for the door but he beat me too it and held it open for me. “And I thought chivalry was dead.” I smiled. Gentleman, he was raised right. “Being kind to a beautiful girl isn’t.” if I didn’t have a chocolate complexion I’m sure my face would have been redder than a tomato. He thought I was beautiful, better yet he called me beautiful. “Well, I must depart. Goodbye Terra.” He took my hand in his and once again kissed it gently, stealing my breath for the second time.
“Bye Demetri.” I breathed. I turned and walked over to Trista and Neva who were still gawking at me and took a seat between them on the stool. Trista, Neva and I have been best friends since forever. We met at W&W Academy; Witches & Warlocks Academy. It’s an immortal boarding school for teenage witches and warlocks. Neva is the total badass diva punk rocker chick. She knows how to make an entrance, turn heads and be the most envied girl in a room. She isn’t stuck up and hateful like most blondes she was friendly, kind and caring; well most of the time. She’s the kind of person to pull pranks. She’s also the rule breaker. She has long dirty blond hair, gray blue eyes, tanned skin, and amazing curves. She’s at least 5.9” and the tallest of us all. She’s a car freaky like me. We would spend hours looking at the latest models on the internet. She’s the energetic, fun loving, carefree one that’s why we love her. Trista on the other hand was a shy, timid girl; that is until we broke her out of it. She’s very sweet and kind. She’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet. She’s the understanding friend, who always got your back and always there when you need her. She’s also very dependable. You could always count on her. She’s about 5.8”, she has long straight auburn hair, light green eyes, light freckled skin. She might seem nice and sweet on the outside but on the inside she had a bit of a temper. I mean if you got her really upset she’d have your but for lunch. “Hey what’s up?” I asked casually as they still gawked at me. “Guys what the matter, do I have something on my face.” I asked touching my face searching for anything that would make them stare at me so bizarrely. They still hadn’t answered. “Guys, come on what’s wrong?” I pleaded they were beginning to freak me out. “What’s wrong is the fact that u never told us u had a boyfriend.” Neva said speaking up. “That’s because I don’t have one.” I interjected.
“So who’s the hunk with the great hair and amazing body and judging from where I’m sitting he’s got brown eyes, quite the muscular body, he’s English, pale gold skin, rich, nature loving and totally the sensitive type.” Trista chimed in. “How does she do it?” Neva asked. “I have no idea; she must have a fifth sense or something.” I answered. Trista laughed at us. “So spill, who is he?” Neva asked impatiently. I sighed. “His name is Demetri Barreiro, you know Daniel Barreiro’s kid.” “No way,” Neva said gasping. “Yes way.” I said. “What is a guy like that, buying coffee in a place like this? Doesn’t he have like a million servants waiting on his hand and foot?” Neva asked. “Maybe he’s just trying to fit in.” Trista said. “Social stud trying to fit in to society,” I commented. Neva was staring at me with penetrating eyes. “What?” I asked innocently. “You two seem too friendly to have only known each other for such a short time.” She said. “We’re not dating Neva. You know I wouldn’t keep that kind of thing from you.” There was a slight cough behind me. “Or you Trista.” “He kissed your hand.” Neva commented. “He’s a gentleman.” I said “And as Trista indicated earlier English that’s what they do.” “He didn’t kiss any of the other girls hand on the bus did he?” Neva said. “No but…” “And I assume he didn’t look at other girl so affectionately either.” Trista chimed in. “No but…” “But nothing, it’s clear as day that he’s into you not to mention he keeps looking over here.” “Really?” I said too eagerly, sitting up straight. “Ooh you like him.” Neva teased. “So…”
“So go over there and work you witches charm on him.” Neva said firmly. “I can’t.” I said frustrated. “Why?” Trista and Neva demanded simultaneously. “Because, he’s human,” I said irritated. “Oh.” Trista said. “Ouch.” Neva said. “Yes,” I said solemnly, resting my chin in my palms “you would have know if you would have let me get a word in.” Trista was mumbling to herself. “What’s the matter T?” I asked. “How could I not see he was human? How could I have missed that?” “Whatever let’s just get out of here.” I said. “Ok.” Neva said Trista was still rambling to herself. I ordered a cappuccino and then we left. Before I walked out the door I looked back and to my surprise Demetri was looking at me smiling. He mouthed the word “Bye” and I did the same.
