The teacher will discuss determiners and its type.

A determiner is used to modify a noun. It is usually performed by articles, demonstratives, possessive


determiners, or interrogatives.
Determiners are words placed in front of a noun to make it clear what the noun refers to.
A definite article is an article that is used to indicate a particular noun while an indefinite article is an
article that is used to indicate that the noun is about a general thing.
The specific determiners are:

1. Articles

a. the definite article: the


Definite article is used before singular and plural nouns when the noun is specific or particular;
and use when the hearer/reader knows exactly what he/she is referring to.
Examples
1. The moon circles the earth.
2. The president will be speaking on TV tonight.
3. Did you do the homework last night?

b. the indefinite article: a and an


Indefinite article is used when the hearer/reader knows exactly what he/she is referring to.
A = with nouns starting with a consonant (letters from b to z except the vowel)
Ex: a cat, a house, a dog
An = with nouns starting with a vowel (a,e,i,o,u)
Ex: an apple, an airplane

2. Possessives:

a. Possessive nouns (Joes, the priests, my mothers)


b. Possessive pronouns (my, your, his, her, our, their, whose etc.)
3. Demonstratives: this, that, these, those

4. Interrogatives: which

a. Activity
The teacher will let the students analyze the sentences posted on the board and put the proper
determiners on the space provided.

b. Analysis
Teacher and students will analyze the answers of the students on the activity performed.

c. Abstraction
The teacher will ask the students to summarize the lesson.

d. Application
Construct five (5) sentence using proper determiners.
