Getting Start SolidPlant 2012

Comprehensive Plant Design for SolidWorks

Step I : How to open SolidPlant


When you are opening SolidPlant Program you can notice that it is on
standby mode under SolidWorks system. The mode is on the right side
of the task pane which is called SolidPlant Project Manager.

Hint : If the program does not show the icon as theabove


picture, you can go to > Tools > Add-Ins to expand
it and open the checkbox. You can then tick at
solidplant box and tick at the start up. This method
can set the program opening with SolidWorks every
time you use it.

Step 2 : How to create a project Model Setup


2.1 SolidPlant Project Manager of task pane tab > New project

SolidPlant was designed to assonantly work between mode and


database. It makes the database management more easily. For example,
you can do the process Bill Of Material only in one time. Besides, you
can link it with PCF file to make Pipe Isometric Drawing as your
requested line number.

2.2 Click on > Enter information > OK

Users can create the new project database with the information as shown
in the detail below.
Project Name : The type of project
Project Description : The full version of Project Name
Directory : The place or folder which was recorded the project database

Note : Users have to choose to open by one method.


When any units were chosen by new project,
They cannot change to be the same unit
anymore. Accordingly, you have to create new
more project with those units again.

Step 3 : How to create steel Structures


3.1 Feature Manager > Select Structure > Edit Assembly

Editing assembly and structuring


assembly can open work status both
in the viewpoint of creating member
and new column. Furthermore, they can
also revise the entire steel structure model.

Warning : If you do not edit assembly formerly,


yet you cannot finish shaping.

3.2 Command Manager > Structures tab


3.3 Structure 3D Grid > Create

Steps to use / Procedure to use


1. If there are any free points to put Grid on the model,
you can pick that point and click >> Get Selected Point

Hint : If there are not any free points, you cannot click it.

2. Key the information in Grid Parameter No. x, y and z


3. In Grid Point Value, input value which shows the level of
elevation such as 0,5000,10000

3.4 Insert Structure Member > Place to align with grid

After you have set the 3D Grid already, the shape of both member
and column will be set the standard of the stand, type and size
(Referring to the function of SolidPlant program), Then you can
choose the Grid line as per your requirement.

Note : You will notice that setting shape is the same as using weldments of
SolidWorks. Solidworks users can adjust or set programs option by
themselves.

Hint : Moreover, there is one more function to setting shape.


It is called point to point which user can specify the
start point and the end point.

3.5 Repeat for stair

There are many types of models in SolidPlant program which are called
Object Platform for example, Stair. It has been used for making Plant
design easily. You just specify the width of sketch line to the border of
shape. After that the users can specify the length or the scale in
Template dimly. If the users want to adjust or revise anything on
template, they can just click at apply. The module will then update
automatically.

Hint : If the users want to revise the old stair, they can choose
Sup-assembly, which is called Stair Assembly, and then
click the Stair button.

3.6 Repeat for ladder

According to the Object Platform, there is one more plant design


function which will help users work conveniently. It is called Ladder.
You just specify the width of sketch line to the border of shape. The
users can specify the value of Template Dialog then. If the users want
to adjust or revise anything on template, they can just click at apply.
The module will then update automatically.

Hint : If the users want to adjust or revise anything on the


former ladder, they can choose Sup-assembly
which is called Ladder Assembly and then
click Ladder button.

3.7 Repeat for handrail, etc

According to the Object Platform, there is another plant design function


which will help users work conveniently. It is called Handrail. You can
create sketch to make the range of your works area and can specify the
stage of your template dialog. If the users want to adjust or revise
anything on template, they can just click at apply. The module will then
update automatically.

Hint : If the users want to adjust or revise anything


on the former handrail, they can choose
Sup-assembly which is called Handrail
Assembly and click Handrail button afterward.

Step 4 : How to create Equipment


4.1 Feature Manager > select Equipment > Edit Assembly
4.2 Command Manager > Equipment tab

Note : Editing assembly and structuring assembly


can not only open work status but also revise
the old equipment.

4.3 Create Equipment > Select equipment type


on library > specify shape > save & close

There are various types of Equipment library standard in SolidPlant


program. For instances, Pump cyclone, Heat exchanger, Storage
Tank and Vessel.

Hint : If the users want to adjust or revise anything


on the former equipment, they can choose
Sup-assembly at that equipment and click
Edit Equipment button afterward.

4.4 SolidPlant Project Manager of task pane


tab > Document List > Refresh TAG

This procedure will show the


update various types of TAG and
show the internal document list
information. The internal document
list information is namely Pipe
Routing, Equipment and etc. It
shows the important project
information of SolidPlant Project
Manager. If the users want the tap
of former equipment, they can
click Refresh TAG button first.
The TAG will be shown at
Equipment immediately.

4.5 On Equipment node > Select Tag Number >


Insert Component to Model

This step is inserting Equipment model in Main Assembly by choosing


your requested TAG name.
You can notice that the program shows preview
of Shape and Equipment.
After you choose TAG name, click right button
of mouse and then click Insert Component.
Equipment model has shown at 0,0,0 co-ordinate.

Note : You can notice that Tag under the Equipment icon
shows the different color . It means:
Black: There are data and Equipment model in the system.
They are set as Main assembly.
Blue: There are data and Equipment model in the system
but they are not set as Main assembly.
Red: There is data in the system but there is not Equipment
model.

4.6 On Equipments tab > Move and Rotate Equipment >


place a locate in model

Because the co-ordinate of previous procedure of Equipment model


is not the users requirement, Move and Rotate Equipment will help
users to handle about the co-ordinate. This step is called a locate.
You can use this step by choosing your Equipment name from Main
Assembly and then click Move and Rotate Equipment.

How to assign the co-ordinate.


- Select point to move icon is the reference on equipment
- Select destination point icon to use as equipment setting

Note : Users can select these steps continually with option to "Rotate" also.

4.7 Feature Manager > Expand Equipment as sembly >


Select Tag Number > Open Assembly
4.8 Command Manager > Equipments tab > Create Nozzle
Users can add nozzle in equipment
by sharing with the pipe Spec data.
Users can use available tab of type
by specifying nozzle as per shown
in the detail below.

- Tab is tag numbering of nozzle.


- Database is the speci fied name of
pipe Spec which was collected nozzle data.
- Size is pipe nominal size.
- End Type is one type of Nozzle.
- Select nozzle shows the detail that was selected in users works.

After you set up by the above procedure, click at new nozzle afterwards.

Note : You can notice that there is a check box which


indicate the position of Nozzle. It is called User define
and is used with SolidWorks's Equipments.

4.9 Specify nozzle on equipment > save & close

The next tab is position of setting nozzle that will be used with
Equipment and linked with route pipe. The parameter consists of
2 working types as per shown in the detail below.

Coordinate : is positioning function which users can specify the


co-ordinate and angle.
Radian : is positioning function that users can select for
cylinder shape.

Hint : If you want to revise or cut the old nozzle,


you can select open assembly and your
required equipment. After that you can
select nozzle on model and click at Edit Nozzle.

Step 5 : How to route Piping


5.1 Solidplant Pipe Routing of task pane tab > New pipe model

When users want to set up the new pipe


routing, they have to click at New Pipe
Model and set their Pipelines name.

Note : Users who used to dominate the line numbers


name can set up the recent line numbers name
by using Active Route function and no need to
set up the new line number.

5.2 Enter the value by drop-down lists on TAG,


Specification, Main Size, etc.

Users can notice that pipe routing


which is used in Solidplant comes
from two references. The first is
Pipe line and the second is Line
number. They help users to sort out
TAG name and others qualification
such as Main size, Specification,
Service, etc. Therefore, the users
have to specify the data at field icon
such as TAG, Specification, Main size
and Color By.

Note : If users import the data such as P&ID data,


Line List part will be adjusted to import
various data types.

5.3 Command Manager > Routing tab


5.4 Manual Route > Point in model > ESC ( To be finished)

Users can use Manual Route function for creating the straight lines and
changing the direction of x, y and z axis by pressing tab button on their
keyboard. These straight lines can compare with center line. When you
finish sketching the straight lines page, you can press ESC button
afterward for creating pipe route model automatically.

Note : After program finished creating pipe route model, the users can revise
the scale by two methods. Firstly, you can click the mouse at the straight line
and stretch it to your required scale or position. Secondly, you can specify the
scale by using the smart dimension of Solidworks with pipe route it will update
the model automatically by both methods.

Step 6 : How to insert a valve into pipe routing


6.1 Double-click on center line of the pipe routing
6.2 Press right-click mouse > Select split entities
of the context menu > click point on center

The users can insert a valve component into pipe routing by providing
their required point or position. The users can use the function
Split Entities for creating the split point. This split point will be the
referent position to put the valve component.

6.3 Command Manager > Routing Components > Valve


6.4 Enter the value of TAG and select valve type in drop-down lists

Inserting the valve into pipe routing can be finished by selecting the
sketchy point or split point from function Split Entities.

Note : When the users already insert valve into pipe routing,
they can change the scale by stretching mouse from the
center point of valve or use the smart dimension by
measuring the distance between elbows center point
and valves center point.

Step 7 : How to export isometric Drawing (*PCF)


7.1 Command Manager > Drawing tab
7.2 Gen PCF > Specify line Numbers

Solidplant can export the pipe


routing data to PCF file for using
easily with other program.
For example, I-run program
which can create Piping
Isometric Drawing

Note : PCF file can also import to


another Pipe stress analysis
program such as AutoPIPE
and Caesar II.

Step 8 : How to create General Arrangement Drawings


8.1 Create normally Drawings by SolidWorks
8.2 Command Manager > Drawings tab
8.3 Place annotation styles; Line-number, TAG, TOP, BOP, COP, etc

Drawing by SolidWorks can use the function plant view and inserting
dimension. However Solidplant can efficie ntly work such as drawing
display for many styles annotation data. As for annotation data,
it consists of Line-Number, TAG, TOP, BOP and COP etc.

Step 9 : How to create bill of material


9.1 Command Manager > SolidPlant tab
9.2 Project Report
9.3 Specify styles to report

According to the bill of material in SolidPlant by using function


Project-Report. The window will be shown the result preview page.
The list of equipment will be shown on the left panel. Moreover, the
top of the window will show drop-down list, which the users can
sort the detail from that result.

Note : If you want to save the result of your work


to be Excel file, you can click on To Excel.

9.4 Take the Bill of Material on drawing

SolidPlant can also create the table of bill of material for drawing preview.
This result can help the users to verify result between model and the table.
