Kolhapur – Gaganbawda – Talere

Kolhapur–Gaganbawda–Talere (Proposed National Highway), Length: 82.440 Km

Submission of detailed estimate along with EPC schedules, Check list, SFC note for Preparation of
Detailed Project Report for up-gradation of Kolhapur – Gaganbawda – Talere road (Proposed National
Highway) from Existing Ch. 53.600 (of SH-177) to Existing Ch. 138.360 (of SH-177) to two/four lane
with paved shoulders in the state of Maharashtra. Looking to the feasibility for execution, the project
is sub divided into 3 contract packages. Details are as follows-

Package: I – Up-gradation of Kolhapur - Gaganbawda - Talere road from Ch. Km 53.600 (Design
Ch. 0.000) to Ch. Km 85.450 (Design Ch. 30.670), design length 30.670 Km,

Package: II – Up-gradation of Kolhapur - Gaganbawda - Talere road from Ch. Km 85.450 (Design
Ch. 30.670) to Ch. Km 138.360 (Design Ch. 82.440), design length 51.770 Km,

Package: III – Construction of RUB on new alignment from Ch. Km 64.850 (Design Ch. 10.830)
to Ch. Km 67.000 (Design Ch. 12.900), design length 1.670 Km and construction of major bridge
over Bhogawati river near Balinge on new alignment from Ch. Km 135.200 (Design Ch. 79.300)
to Ch. Km 135.700 (Design Ch. 79.800), design length 0.530 Km, i.e. total design length 2.200
Km.

l. The salient features of the existing road stretch are as under:

i. The road stretch starts from Talere Junction on NH 66 (Km 287.200 of NH-66) at Km 53.600
of SH-177 (Talere village) and ends at the start of Kolhapur Ring Road at Km 138.360 of SH-
177 (Balinge). The total length of the existing road is 83.950 Km.
ii. The road stretch is passing through plain, rolling & steep terrain.
iii. The existing major towns/villages in the road stretch are:

iv. The existing horizontal alignment has certain sub-standard curves which require
improvements as standard curves with a minimum design speed of 80 kmph (for plain &
rolling terrain) and a minimum design speed of 40 kmph (for Mountainous & Steep terrain).
v. The Right of way of existing road varies between 6.0m to 59.0m.
vi. The Average Daily Traffic (year 2016) on the project road at the following count locations
are as below.
At Km 68: AADT (PCU) 3028, CVPD: 607
At Km 112: AADT (PCU) 4642, CVPD: 740
At Km 125: AADT (PCU) 5883, CVPD: 963
The project road from Talere to Kolhapur qualifies for two lane configuration with paved
shoulders.

2. The salient features of the Detailed Feasibility Report are as under:

i. Horizontal alignment: The Horizontal alignment is designed for a minimum design speed of
80kmph. But there are certain locations where the existing curves could not be improved as
per IRC: SP-73-2015 standard as it involved land acquisition/ demolition of structures/ cutting
of hills/filling on valley side etc and therefore it has been improved to the possible extent
within available ROW.
ii. Details of Bypasses: No new bypass is proposed in this section.

iii. Details of Realignments: Major realignments are proposed as mentioned earlier at the
following locations-
 Realignment due to construction of RUB at Kokisare (LC-21, Rly Km 287/9) and
 Realignment due to construction of major bridge over Bhogawati river near Balinge.
iv. The total length of project stretch with the above said improvements is 82.440 km.
v. The whole stretch from Talere to Kolhapur (Balinge) qualifies for two lane configuration with
paved shoulder.
vi. Right of way: Two laning with paved shoulder is proposed to be accommodated within
available ROW except at realignment, bypasses, and curve improvement. In case of major
realignments, bypasses and toll plaza locations, 60.0m ROW is proposed and in minor
realignment locations, 30.0m ROW is proposed. Also, where the available ROW is
insufficient to accommodate 2 laning with paved shoulder, additional land acquisition is
proposed.
vii. Rigid pavement is proposed for the project road.
viii. Toll plaza locations: In the proposed project road two toll plazas are proposed. The location
of Toll Plazas are at design Ch. 17.220 and Ch. 55.350.
