E-LAUNDRY

INTRODUCTION
The Indian tourism & hospitality industry
has emerged as one of the key drivers of growth
among the services sectors in India. In 2013, the
travel and tourism industry contributed Rs. 2.17
trillion or 2% to the country’s GDP. This is
expected to rise to Rs. 4.35 trillion in 2024.
India’s travel and tourism industry is expected to
grow by about 7.3% in 2014, according to World
Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
With increasing tourism, the number of hotels
is on the rise, creating a glut of dirty linen. Large
and sustainable commercial laundry operations,
hence, has huge scope and need attention. Having
cost effective commercial laundry solutions is
what the market needs but to arrive at effective
and attractive solution, one has to first understand
the current best practices & market attractiveness.
This research study proposes to study washer
men service provided to people and commercial
establishments in Pune & surrounding areas.
LITERATURE FRAMEWORK
A similar research was published by Mr. Ravi
Teja Sharma under articles of Economic Times
on March 20,2011 with the title as “Organised
laundry service players mull expansion” which
focused on the fact that the Indian laundry
industry is still dominated by unorganised
sector(Dhobis).
RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
 To list out the best available laundry
solutions for people residing in Pune and
surrounding areas.
 To understand their best current solutions for
laundry.
 To understand their willingness to outsource
laundry.
 To understand their expectations from
commercial laundry services.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
 Descriptive research design using
convenience sampling.
 Sample size selected- 20 respondents of
people residing in Kondwa representing the
population (Pune).
DATA ANALYSIS & INTERPRETATION

 54% of respondents prefer economic services.


 24% of respondents prefer mid scale or
medium service.
 22% of respondents prefer luxury services.
 22% of respondents outsource their laundry.
 22% of such mainly involves the working
women.
 25% of respondents do their laundry on their
own i.e. self with help of washing machines
 43% of respondents opt for domestic help.
 10% of respondents use combined services
i.e. who utilise laundry system on the basis of
quality of clothes etc.
Strategic Thinking on Laundry Outsourcing

 67% of respondents focus on the outsourcing


of the selective clothes i.e. expensive
garments, special instruction given on clothes
etc.
 28% opt for the internal services but in a
expertise ways
 5% of respondents believe that expertise
service should be purchased.
FINDINGS
 More than 50% respondents prefer on
economic services.
 43% respondents choose domestic help for
the laundry within their homes.
 25% respondents do their laundry on their
own i.e. self with help of washing machines
 10% respondents use combined services i.e.
utilise laundry system on the basis of quality
of clothes etc.
 67% of respondents focus on the outsourcing
of the selective clothes i.e. expensive
garments, special instruction given on clothes
etc.

Challenges of Traditional Laundry System

 Incorrect washing – The clothes are


generally washed by the laundry services
without taking into account special
instructions written on the clothes.
 Higher cost: leading to disinterest of
respondents belonging to economic class of
society.
 High textile replacement- Higher
replacements of garments due to inadequate
processes by laundry services.
 Improper handling –leads to damages and
loss due to improper handling of garments.
 Stains not removed – generally stains are not
removed due to common usage of the
processes.
 Frequent slip in operations – The frequent
slip in operations leads to higher cost of
operations due to electrical processes.
 Use of excessive bleach – It leads to damages
to machinery used in operations
Benefits Derived from E laundry to
Respondents

1. Access to advanced technology – It gives an


access to advanced technology in terms of use
of advanced machinery etc.
2. Lower cost – It helps in bringing down the
cost of laundry services for a customer.
3. Hygienic services – The services offered by
E laundry are hygienic in terms of washer
man (Dhobi) traditional vendor for laundry
clothes.
4. Access to schemes – It gives an access to
various schemes and promotional activities
taken up by industries.
5. No human touch – No human touch to
garments post wash due to automated system
of laundering.
SUGGESTIONS & CONCLUSIONS

 People will readily outsource their laundry if


professional services are offered.
 People opting for domestic help are easily
ready to shift to commercial laundry system if
services are provided at cheaper rates.
 As 54% respondents prefer economic
services, the laundry system should be
offered at economical rates considering the
type of respondents.
 Online laundry provides speedier service of
delivery with automated process without any
human intervention.
 Online market space (virtual) is attracting a
lot of youth nowadays who wants the work to
be done on a click of few buttons.
 E-laundry ensures effective accountability of
the washer men registered under the chain of
online laundry system.
