  • 2 Preparations

This chapter lists the required software and other information needed before this delivery installation can be started.

  • 2.1 Required software, components and CDs

The following software or system components are required in the NetAct environment before the installation:

Windows Workstation

The supported operating systems are Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows

10. Application may work for other Windows versions too, but these are not supported. Installation files and other related content is delivered in a ZIP archive, which requires compatible SW for decompression (eg. WinZip® or 7-Zip).

Viewing application help requires HTML browser. The help files are displayed by default browser.

MSXML 3.0 SP2 component, or more recent MSXML 3.0 SP, is required for XML file support. This is included at Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. If running other Windows version it can be either:

installed from media of previous Plan Editor deliveries. Running msxml2sp2Setup.exe installs the SW. Last delivery where msxml2sp2Setup.exe is included is OSS_CD_2977.

  • 3 Making safe copy of the package

Before starting the application installation make sure that necessary up to date backups have been taken.

Especially make sure that the up to date backups of databases (*.mdb files) including user data have been taken.

Download this delivery from NOLS Software Delivery (SWD).

    • 5.1 Installation

This chapter explains how to install this delivery on Windows based workstation.

The first installation

  • 1. Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

  • 2. Open NetAct_Plan_Editor_16.8.zip file from the installation media

  • 3. Run setup.exe.

  • 4. Select Destination Location: Accept or change the installation directory. Click

Next.

  • 5. Select Start Menu Folder: Accept or change the start menu folder. Click Next.

  • 6. Copy the Nokia License Key XML file (delivered separately) to the installation

directory defined in step 4.

  • 7. The application creates, deletes and modifies files at following folders:

Application installation folder and subfolders

User defined folders for databases and export files

If access control prevents file update you can set the PlanEdit.exe file at installation folder to run as administrator as follows:

Right click PlanEdit.exe

Select Properties/Compatibility

Set “Run this program as an administrator”

Upgrading the previous installation

  • 1. Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

  • 2. Open NetAct_Plan_Editor_16.8.zip file from the installation media

  • 3. Run setup.exe.

  • 4. Select Destination Location: Select the installation directory of previous

installation. Click Next.

  • 5. Select Start Menu Folder: Select the start menu folder of previous installation.

Click Next.

  • 6. Copy the Nokia License Key XML file (delivered separately) to the installation

directory defined in step 4 (license file name is changed from previous release)

  • 7. The application creates, deletes and modifies files at following folders:

Application installation folder and subfolders

User defined folders for databases and export files

If access control prevents file update you can set the PlanEdit.exe file at installation folder to run as administrator as follows:

Select Properties/Compatibility

Transferring settings of database of previous installation (optional)

  • 1. Create new database using the "New database" functionality of application.

  • 2. Import settings from existing database using "Config/Database/Update

  • 6 Checking the package consistency

    • 1. Click Start ® Programs ® Nokia NetAct Plan Editor

    • 2. The Plan Editor start-up dialog appears on the screen. Version 16.5 is visible and

licensing should be for "Customer, Country" without expiry date.

  • 3. Click New Database… button, select name and location for new database

(*.mdb), network elements and versions as needed, and click Create button. For

performance is recommended to select only the necessary network elements. The new database is automaticly opened.

  • 4. For getting objects to database, you can for example import actual data from

NetAct Configurator CM Operations Manager:

4.1 At CM Operations Manager open Export Actual Configuration dialog, select network elements (with version equal to selected for database), export target, RAML2.0 export format, internal values, and click Start button. 4.2 At Plan Editor open Import dialog, select “Default OSS” profile, name of input file, import actual data, and click Import button.

  • 5. Click Object Browser icon (the leftmost button on the main window) or select

View ® Object Browser to open dialog and list the database objects. The tree view should list several NMSs and the imported objects when expanded.

  • 7 Fallback

    • 1. Uninstall NetAct Plan Editor 16.8.

      • - Login to the workstation as an administrator user.

      • - Click Start ® Settings ® Control Panel.

      • - Double click Add/Remove Programs.

      • - Select Nokia NetAct Plan Editor from the list and click Remove.

      • - Confirm the dialog by clicking Yes.

      • - Note: Uninstall does not remove files added after installation (license file, report files and configuration files). You can remove these files manually.

        • 2. Install NetAct Plan Editor 16.8

        • 3. Copy the database files (*.mdb) from backup to the folder where application is

installed
