Their (thankfully) uneventful trip finally ended in the city of Belém (Bethlehem), a city that sits on the mouth of the Amazon river. Emily and Chloe {eined him four days later aftr much shorter plane ride, and so began our part inthe ministry ere in Northern Brazil Thi school year we had a total of twelve students, an exciting beginning for the re-opening of the le cllage. We ae looking forward to some new stents when the ew school year Begins in February; though, the way things function up here, we won't know exactly how many until the end of the first week of classes! Besides classes, the big project this year was the restoration of the library. Churches in the area took up an offering for this restoration. and with the labor of many, the library should be up and running smoothly for the beginning of the semester. In our last prayer letter, we mentioned the project of the distance learning classroom. We praise the Lord and thank those who contributed to see that realized. It is up and running and we actual- ly had the opportunity to test it out during a brief, family-related trip to the States this fall. Every- thing worked perfectly, and Brandon was able to teach his classes even while out of the country. One of our goals at the Bible college is to offer theological training not only to those who can come and study in the capital city, but also to those who are unabie to come to us. This month we will be offering three concurrent modules, given over a two-week period, to students in a city on the western cide of our state. This city, Santarém, is where Pastor Rubens and his family served for 18 years as missionaries. Currently the city has four regular Baptist churches, with only one pastor (who arrived just before Christmas!) and a missionary couple among them. This month we will be offering Pentateuch, Homiletics, and a women's counseling class, and Pastor Rubens is already set- ting up classes for summer break in July. Please pray for us as we teach, for the students as they sit in Glass for long hours, for the churches in Santarérm, and for safety on the trip. Pastor Rubens’ family leaves today on a three-day boat ride. We will be joining them by plane on the 14th; classes begin on the 15th, and we will all come back together by boat in the beginning of February. We thank you for your continued prayers for the church here, Good News Baptist. We were happy to have some visitors at our special program on Christmas Eve. Our church gathered together in ur house on New Year's Eve into the wee hours of January (who came up with these traditions anyway?) and it was a blessing. The last year saw some progress in the church, and we are look- ing forward to seeing what God will do this new year. ‘As always, we thank the Lord for you and for your continued prayers, suppor, and interest in the ministry of the Gospel here in Brazil. Please don't forget to check out our blog: wiw.teambrazil.org, We keep it regularly updated, so you can keep up with what's going on and how you can be pray- ing.
