ABSTRACT

The uneven growth of urban population leads to the failure in the sustainable development of basic
amenities such as water, due to increase in demand. There is an urgent need for providing adequate
determination of water demand projection to meet the need of water for growing population. Till
now water demand is projected on basis of conventional population based method(s) for sustainable
water need for future use. Due to non-uniformity of growth pattern in population in city sometime
this projection fail to meet the requirement of population and results in unnecessary pressure on
water resources. Now a day satellite based geospatial techniques such as remote sensing (RS),
Differential Global positioning System (DGPS), and Geographical Information System (GIS).The
spatial data for land use utilities which can be stored, analysed and retrieved in the form of temporal
data in RS, DGPS, and GIS environment. The Landuse based planning and management has shown
a vital role in water management studies. In this Research, the remote sensing satellite image of
LISS-3 which is Geo referenced using DGPS and data base is stored using GIS as a source data.
This gives more accurate result of land use pattern and future development of city .In this research
the different methods are analysed for water demand on population projection, land use
information, and water production records(As per City Development Plan). From the comparison it
is found that the land use information based water supply projection gives quite accurate result as
compared to population based methods.
