European Bank

• One of Europe’s Top 25 banks operating in the eurozone. • A big change agenda driven by a worldwide acquisition strategy, technological challenges associated with the Year 2000 and the single currency and the introduction of a number of e-commerce products and services. • An ambitious agenda for growth, innovation and further diversification of income in a highly competitive market. • The need to improve the speed of large scale change implementation across the bank as a whole.

Our approach
• Introduce a proven and robust change methodology across the bank (Changefirst methodology). • Certify the HR strategy team and other key members of the senior management team in Changefirst methodology. • Proliferation of the Changefirst change management methodology through senior level briefings, and a company wide intranet application. • Deliver of train the trainer to allow the organisation to become less dependant over time on external consulting support and allow and ongoing programme of internal education at all levels inside the organisation to build change capability.

Organisational issues
• To maximise the return on large scale change projects and improve the speed of implementation driven by an accelerating change agenda at all levels inside the bank. • Recognition that the organisation lacked its own internal change management experts within the HR strategy team and also amongst those leading large change projects. • A number of high profile projects in the planning stage that needed to be brought in on time and on budget. • In spite of a ‘change freeze’ a large number of change projects already in the ‘system’ causing change overload across the bank and effectively acting as an inhibitor to the implementation of further major change.

Undertaking a change project ‘audit’ to assess the current capability of the organisation to deliver a change versus the internal demand for change – build a plan to address the issues of demand and capacity.

• HR strategy team and key project leaders using the methodology to implement their change projects and also undertaking 1:1 coaching to further develop their change craft. • Trainers delivering internal change management training co-facilitated with Changefirst. • Intranet application in development and due to roll out change management knowledge to the wider organisation. • Change audit planning and design completed in partnership with internal partners.
