Data Processing and Analysis

To determine the median reduction of acne, the Kruskal-Wallis H-test will be used. Also called Kruskal±Wallis one-way analysis of variance by ranks (named

after William Kruskal and W. Allen Wallis), this non-parametric method is used for testing equality of population medians among groups. This test is an alternative to the independent group Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), when the assumption of normality or equality of variance is not met. This, like many non-parametric tests, uses the ranks of the data rather than their raw values to calculate the statistic.

ANOVA is a statistical data analysis technique that is used when the independent variable groups are more than two. In ANOVA, we assume that distribution of each group should be normally distributed. In Kruskal-Wallis Test, we do not assume any assumption about the distribution. So Kruskal-Wallis Test is a distribution free test. If normality assumptions are met, then the Kruskal-Wallis Test is not as powerful as ANOVA.

First, the data will be arranged by categories (one category for mashed avocado, another for kalamansi extract and another for the control group). Then, these assembled measures will be rank-ordered from lowest (rank#1) to highest (rank#N), with tied ranks included where appropriate. The sum of the ranks of each category will then be calculated. Then, we square the sum of the ranks and divide by N as shown in the formula below.

If the calculated value of Kruskal-Wallis Test is less than the Chisquare table value at 0. then the null hypothesis will be accepted.22 R2 N After this the Kruskal-Wallis H-Test Formula can then be applied: H= Where: H = the Kruskall-Wallis H-Test N = the total number of observations in all samples R = the Rank of the Sample Then. then the null hypothesis will be rejected. the degree of freedom will be determined using this formula: DF = k-1 Where DF = the degree of freedom k = the number of groups Kruskal-Wallis Test statistics is approximately a Chi-square distrubution. If the calculated value of Kruskal-Wallis H-Test is greater than the Chi-square table value. .05 . with k1 degree of freedom.
