Report on “3 day workshop on wind engineering” at NMIMS,Mumbai

The Indian standard on the calculation of wind load on structures i.e IS 875 : 1987 has been
revised in 2015.The objective of the workshop to stay up to date on the latest practices in
designing structures subjected to wind loads. The workshop primarily aims at familiarizing the
participants with design of buildings and structures subject to wind loading. They will gain
knowledge about the characteristics of wind forces and the types of structural responses.
Currently, there are several design philosophies including making use of experimental results,
computer simulations to understand the performance of the structure. The major objective of the
workshop is to practically train participants about the design and analysis procedures used in
Civil Engineering industry for developing wind resistant structures as per latest revision of IS
Codes.

The workshop was held during 18-19-20 December, 2017.The speakers of workshop were Dr.
T.I. Eldow: Prof. Civil Engineering Department, IIT Bombay, K. Suresh Kumar, Ph.D.,
P.Eng., M.ASCE and Mr. Rahul PS, MESc.They explained the concepts and applications of
new wind code with solved examples. The workshop went very useful to us as many of us doing
the thesis regarding tall building design.
