takes Market takes a breather Indices ended lower today, ending a four-day rally, as investors started booking into profits. Turnover nearly halved while foreign investors turned net sellers. The next few days will determine whether the trend has reversed

• Banking & Finance and Diversified sectors contributed significantly to the market turnover, although the sector indices declined by 0.71% and 0.72% respectively. Most sectors were actively traded. • Hemas Holdings made the highest contribution to the market turnover with a price appreciation of Rs 2.50 (6.27%) and closed at Rs 42.40. • Ceylon Grain Elevators also contributed significantly to the market turnover with a crossing amounting to 782,800 shares taking place at Rs 50. The share price increased by Rs 4.60 (9.64%) and closed at Rs 52.40. • Three other major crossings were recorded for 782,800 shares of Ceylon Grain Elevators at Rs 50, 600,000 shares of The Lion Brewery at Rs 164 and 60,000 shares of Lanka Orix Leasing at Rs 940. • Abans declared a final dividend of Rs 3.40 per share.
Global Market • Japanese stocks closed higher on the back of exporters, starting the month with three straight gains and ending the week up 1.4%.

• European stocks rose, tracking gains in Asia following better-than-expected U.S. nonfarm payrolls data last week.
Debt Market • Secondary market Treasury bond yields increased marginally, while the activity was high. The money market continued to be in excess of liquidity (approximately Rs 38Bn).
