TEST OF JUNE : ENGLISH

Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

SECTION. A

When we speak of the youth we mean every person who is not yet married. Whose age is between 7 and25 years?
Some of the problems for the youths are: poverty, ignorance and idleness caused by dropping out of school,
shortage of land to work on and jobs to do.

When young people are not given good care, they become aimless and irresponsible proverb in Kinyarwanda says
“a tree can only be straightened when it is still young”. This means that young people should be given guidance
from very early childhood so that when they grow up they are able to live successfully to be useful to their own
people and their country in order to help them do this parents and guardians should play an important part of the
education or their children and work in cooperation with teachers and others whom responsible for helping the
youth to grow up properly. In that way they can be trained to do what useful now and in the future.

There are many things that young people out of school can be trained to do .Although most people in Rwanda
work as cultivators; there is not enough land for all the youth to work on. There are other ways for the youth to
learn and find work. There is carpentry, building construction, trading , tailoring weaving , drawing, fishing,
hairdressing, shoe making and repairing and, so on.

The youth know very well that prevents idleness, but it has many problems in finding the right work to do. The
problems may be as a result of poor training or none at all, lack of money to buy basic tools and lack of a place to
work from and having no market for the things they make. For young people to grow up and become good
citizens, they need help and guidance from parents, teachers, trainers and all others who are concerned.
