Rhythmic displacement in jazz

This is an extension to the rhythmic transposition exercises found in John Riley's book The Art of
Bop Drumming, p. 21. The idea is to practice starting a comping rhythm on any quarter note of a
four bar phrase.

First practice these phrases with a steady ostinato. Play along to a repetitive song form such as a
12 bar blues or a 32 bar AABA to hear how the phrases relate to the form.
