Goodmorning everyone. To the panels, Dr. Rago, Goodmorning. Engr.

Maligalig and
Engr. Canela. And ofcourse to our research advirs, engr. Constantino. Goodmorning.

We are the first group to present a research proposal entitled, A proposed CET
Building extension with laboratory facilities.

Before I start, I would like to introduce my self first, I'm Agatha Rocero and
these are my thesismates, Ms. Escalona, Ms. Paglinawan, Mr. Singh and Mr. Gonzales.

And also I would like to credit Engr. Maligalig for his great influence in our
research title.

With the recent K-12 implementation, schools and universities are currently in a
transition period. Because of the additional 2 more years in the curriculum, more
students are enrolled, so definitely a much more space is needed. But the problem
is, there is no more space. Our university particularly our department cannot
accomodate everyone. The STEM and engineering students both held their classes in
the CET building with a total population of 1703. And majority of these students
faces these problems:

With the increasing population of students, means a greater demand of classrooms. We

believe that everyone is aware that the classrooms are not enough. Like for
instance, in our class, they had to combine us into one section because they cannot
accomodate us.

Classroom confusion is also a problem which happens at the start of the semester
wherein the designated classrooms, students are supposed to go to are not yet
finalized therefore creating confusion. Students would say "Alin ba talaga? Saan ba
ANd it's all because the faculty have difficulties in designating classrooms for
students due to the increasing population.

In order to practice the theories learned from lecture subjects, laboratory works
are essential. But our laboratories are outdated. Even the Methods Engineering
laboratory, surveying and hydraulics laboratories are all in the same room. They
are also sometimes used as lectures rooms rather than its intended us.

And with all these problems, our proposed solution is to extend the existing CET

The next procedure to be followed is to design the structural components of the

proposed extension. The design computation will be based on the NSCP manual using
the method og Ultimate strenght design.

First is to determine the loads carried by the structure such as deadloads,

liveloads, windloads and all the necessary loads needed. Its factor can be found on
the NSCP.

After determination of loads, seismic and frame analysis portal method are used to
determine the lateral loadings, shear and moments of the structure.

Ultimate strength design is a method used to determine the strength capacity of a

member beyond its initial yielding. It is more economical than WSD. WHile WSD method
is where the members are designed to never go beyond the elastic range. USD method
provides a greater safety across all elements.
