President’s Letter
Happy February, Waltherson

Our first quarterly meeting of 2018 is fast approaching. We’re scheduled to meet next at Harbel
at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, February 13th. Waltherson resident and executive director of Hamilton
Lauraville Mainstreet, Regina Lansinger, will give us an update of the business district on
Harford Road and be available to answer any questions you might have. I look forward to
seeing you all there.

I mentioned there was a site visit at Walther & Echodale in our last newsletter and we have a
brief update on the status of changes at that intersection. Jeffrey Fleming writes and tells us
that a work order was placed on December 18th for signs forbidding left hand turns onto
Echodale during peak hours (7-10 AM & 4-7 PM) and these signs were installed in late January.
Work orders will also be placed for down bollards along the bike lanes on Walther Ave.

I was thrilled to see that the Enoch Pratt Library has received new funding that will allow them
to expand library hours throughout the city. Starting January 8th all libraries are now open 6
days a week. The Hamilton Branch, located just north of us, will now be open 10 AM Monday
through Saturday. They will close at 8 PM on Monday and Thursday, 5:30 PM on Tuesday and
Wednesday, and 5 PM on Friday and Saturday. As always, this months events at our library can
be found on the next page of the newsletter.

Thank you to all who have renewed your Waltherson membership for 2018. If you haven’t sent
in your dues yet, please remember to do so to maintain voting rights or stop by and pay at our
February meeting. Your generous contributions allow us to continue operating and help pay for
things like community events, our meeting space, mailing address, and outreach. Again, thank
you all for your continued support. I look forward to see you all in February.

Kind Regards,
Robert J. Walshe, WIA president | 443.939.6243

NECOP – Northeast Citizens on Patrol
In Northeast Baltimore we have a district wide Citizens on Patrol program called NECOP. The reasoning
behind the COP program is that regular neighborhood patrols can make criminals feel uncomfortable
and drive them out of our neighborhood. Communities with regular NECOP patrols, such as the North
Harford neighborhood, also see significantly less crime than communities with inactive patrols.

Participants meet at the Northeast Police station at 1900 Argonne Drive near Morgan State and an
officer will give you a direct number to keep them in contact with the Police. You would then proceed to
patrol the neighborhood in your car. Patrols normally go out each Thursday and Friday from about 7:30 -
10:30. Anyone interested in the Citizens on Patrol program, please contact us at

Biddison Cemetery Cleanup

Thank you to everyone who helped clean up the Biddison Cemetery last month in the snow. Also thanks
to CedarLight Grove for assisting. Our cleanup was later this year than usual but we made great progress
getting the cemetery cleanup up for the winter.
