The Rosemount 5900S is a premium non-contact radar level
gauge with custody transfer accuracy, suitable for tank Tankbus
terminals and refineries. It is normally integrated into a high 5900S
performance tank gauging system including average
temperature measurement for accurate net volume calculation.
Data is transmitted to the control room and displayed on a host
computer or the TankMaster inventory software package. TankMaster

distance field wiring is obsolete.

The 5900S gauge is available with antenna options to suit all
bulk liquid storage applications and tank types (see pages 4, 7,
10 and 14).

Drip-off means no condensation

Since the antenna has an inclined polished PTFE surface where
microwaves are emitted, it will be less susceptible to condensed
water or product. Condensation drops will not coat the active
antenna part, so the radar signal remains strong, resulting in
higher accuracy and better reliability.

SIL safety functions

Rosemount 5900S is SIL 2 and SIL 3 certified for overfill
prevention.

5900S with SIL option activates a separate alarm loop at a preset

liquid level and triggers the safety relay output on the
Rosemount 2410 Tank Hub. The alarm signal can be connected
to an Emergency Shut-down System (ESD) / Automatic Overfill
Prevention System (AOPS).

SIL 2 requires one 5900S. SIL 3 is achieved with a 2-in-one

5900S. A Rosemount 2410 Tank Hub equipped with a SIL relay
output is also required for SIL safety.

2-in-1 gauge for cost-efficient level

measurement redundancy
The 5900S gauge can be delivered with two electronic units
integrated in the transmitter head.

The unique 2-in-1 solution gives you one primary and one
backup unit in a single level gauge, or one level gauge plus an
independent radar based High-High level alarm.

The 2-in-1 solution enables real-time delta verification by

configuring the transmitter to compare signals on both units.
Compared to having two separate gauges, the 2-in-1 solution 5900S with two galvanically separated gauges within the same housing
makes mechanical and electrical installation easier. (2-in-1 solution).

Ordering information
Rosemount 5900S Radar Level Gauge with parabolic antenna
Rosemount 5900S with parabolic antenna is a premium non-contact radar level gauge. It is
the first choice for installation on tanks with fixed roofs without a still-pipe. The parabolic
antenna can be installed on existing manhole covers and close to the tank wall due to the
narrow radar beam and high signal to noise ratio. In certain cases, it can be used on tanks
with floating roofs to measure the distance down to a target plate on the floating roof.

 Measures all products ranging from light products to heavy fuel oil, bitumen and asphalt

 Antenna design gives extreme tolerance to product build-up and condensation

 Custody transfer accuracy according to OIML R85:2008

 SIL 2 and SIL 3 certified according to IEC 61508-2 and 61508-3

 2-in-1 functionality available for redundant level measurement

 Communicates via a 2-wire, low voltage Tankbus for easy and safe installation

 Installation normally with tank in service

transmitted from the antenna when the reflection is received.
The difference in frequency is directly proportional to the Number of available VCRs

Installation and Configuration

The 2230 display can be installed either on the tank roof or at
the foot of the tank for a flexible and convenient read-out of
tank data.

Cabling can be daisy-chained via the 2230 terminals to other

devices on the Tankbus. A terminator is required at each end of
the Tankbus to ensure the fieldbus network will have proper
signal levels.
Generally, one is at the fieldbus power supply and the other
terminator is in the last device in the network.
Rosemount 2230 has a built-in terminator which can be
connected if required.

The display is designed to be mounted on a plate, towards a

wall or similar. It is attached to the plate with four M4 screws.
It is important to provide space for opening the lid.
The protecting lid prevents degradation of the LCD display due
to sunlight exposure.
For more information, see the Rosemount 2230 Reference
Manual (document number 300560EN).

Configuration is done locally via the device's graphical menu

and built-in buttons or remotely by using the TankMaster
WinSetup software.
For more information, see the Rosemount 2230 Reference
Manual (document number 300560EN) or the Rosemount
TankMaster WinSetup Reference Manual (document number
300510EN).

MEASUREMENT DEVICES
The devices that are integrated into Smart Wireless
solutions are the same high quality, reliable and
proven instruments that are in use today. These
devices have been equipped with a wireless output
that simply takes the measurement and transmits the
digital HART data wirelessly, instead of the traditional
4-20 mA loop signal. The devices are installed
exactly the same as wired devices without the added
cost of wiring.
Instruments are HART based, providing the same
rich data they do today - only now, there is a means
to extract the additional HART information that
formerly has been stranded in the device because
analog control systems are unable to tap this wealth
of information via the 4-20 mA loop.
Rugged Housing
The 1420 Wireless Gateway is suitable for field
mounting in any Zone 2/Division 2, general purpose
area and is NEMA 4X/IP65 rated.

Autoconfiguration of Tankbus 5900S

The 2410 supports auto-configuration of the Tankbus within the 5400 or
Rosemount Tank Gauging system. It acts as a FOUNDATION™ 5300
fieldbus master on the Tankbus, which means it identifies and
auto-addresses the different field devices in the network,
manages communication, and supervises the status of all
connected devices.
Emulation: The tank hub enables replacement of old mechanical/servo
gauges with 5900S level gauges, or 5300/5400 transmitters using the
existing tank openings, field cabling, and control system.

Output relay functionality

Rosemount 2410 can be equipped with two solid state relays
which can be configured to be controlled by level, temperature,
and water level (Non-SIL in “Rosemount 2410 Tank Hub ordering

external system for alarm indication or process control. These
relays are user configurable for normally open or closed
operation.

A third relay is dedicated for SIL overfill functionality. It is part of

a separate SIL alarm channel, which has an independent
software function, controlling the relay and providing extensive
diagnostics. This relay is activated both if the alarm level is
reached and/or if a device malfunction occurs.

It operates in a normally closed mode, and the output can be The 2410 Tank Hub connected to a Smart Wireless THUM™ Adapter
