Engineering Management
- Engineering Management is a specialized form of management that is required to
successfully lead engineering or technical personnel and projects.
- It connects the technological problem-solving knowledge of engineering and the
organizational, administrative, and planning abilities of management in order to
administer the operational performance of complex engineering driven businesses.

 Engineering managers typically require training and experience in both general


management and the specific engineering disciplines that will be used by the
engineering team to be managed.
5 M’s of Engineering Management
1. Manpower - human resources, they are the people on the workplace in an
organization
2. Machine – apparatus used to ease the work
3. Material – raw ingredient of a product.
4. Method – the process used for production
5. Money – main resource of a project or construction

1. Product development – product management; The overall process of strategy,
organization, concept generation, product and marketing plan creation and
evaluation, and commercialization of a new product.
2. Manufacturing – production of merchandise

techniques, product development, technical design and rapid prototyping to

 Planning - involves setting objective and determining course of action for achieving
those objectives
Types of planning
1. Strategic-specified techniques to be used to achieve the desired
objectives
2. Intermediate-short ranged planning
3. Operational – detailed plan used to provide a clear picture how a
team contribute for the accomplishment of the objectives
 Organizing - involves developing of organization and allocating human resources for the
accomplishment of the objective
Organization chart – graphical representation of the chain of commands within
an organization

 Leading - involves the social and formal sources of influence that is used to inspire
action taken by others.

3. Finance - It can be look upon the study of relationship between the raising of
funds and deployment of funds.
