Cape Town is the unofficial capital of South Africa, and fondly referred to as the “Mother City”. It is the provincial capital of the Western Cape, as well as the legislative capital of South Africa, where the National Parliament and many government offices are situated. Cape Town is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, and is not only the most popular international tourist destination in South Africa, but also one of Africa’s most popular international tourist destinations. And what’s not to admire with its good climate, natural setting, and well-developed infrastructure? Not to mention a plethora of diverse attractions, sights and activities – from lavish and luxurious to backpacking on a budget, Cape Town has something for everyone. The beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, Table Mountain, Chapmans Peak and the expansive gardens of Kirstenbosch are just some of the natural attractions. People don’t just love Cape Town for its blue sky, though; they’re also interested in the colours it takes on after dark. Thousands visit each year solely for the city’s vibrant nightlife, entertainment, theatre, talented performers, excellent restaurants, wine estates and bars. As a student at IH Cape town, you will be much more than just a tourist or a language learner. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of this vibrant city, rapidly improving your English as you soak up the different experiences. You are sure to increase your English language skills both inside and outside the classroom as you become acquainted with this beautiful city. South Africans are also looking forward to hosting Africa’s first ever world cup, the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in June 2009. This exciting, world-class event is not to be missed.

“i”.. is a highly qualified member of the staff at International House Cape Town, whose job it is to seek out exciting and rewarding activities for students while they are busy studying. He seldom sleeps, is always out and about and is loved by all who meet him for his rugged good looks, charming personality and great sense of adventure.
....keep a look out for “i” on our website as he explores Cape Town and the surrounding areas.

Located in the heart of Sea Point, students can enjoy proximity to a number of exciting attractions. ■ Sea Point is situated between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean, a few kilometres to the west of Cape Town’s Central Business District (CBD). Moving from Sea Point to the CBD, one first passes through the small suburb of Three Anchor Bay, then Green Point and seaward from Green Point is the area known as Mouille Point (pronounced MOO-lee), where the local lighthouse is situated. ■ Sea Point is divided by Main Road and enjoys a bustling 24-hour cosmopolitan

vibe with its many shops, takeaways, restaurants, clubs, internet cafes and coffee bars. Just about everything you need is found in this part of the city and it hums with activity. IH accommodation is also within walking distance from the above hustle and bustle. ■ The famous Sea Point promenade runs the length of Sea Point’s beachfront, from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay and is also a hub of activity, particularly in the early morning or late afternoons. A number of children’s parks run alongside the promenade and Sea Point beach adjoins an Olympic-sized seawater

swimming pool at the Pavilion. From Bantry Bay along the promenade you reach the trendy and there-to-be-seen beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. ■ The Green Point Stadium in Cape Town has been transformed into a completely new 70-000 seater, allweather, multi-purpose, environmentally sustainable, modern, technologically advanced, world-class stadium giving expression to the “African Renaissance Stadium” at the juncture between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean at the southern tip of Africa.

Valladolid has been recognized as the region that speaks the purest Spanish in the world. But also, history and culture are inevitable themes within the language courses and even more so when leaving the school. Two hours north of Valladolid are the cave paintings of Altamira, dating back 15,000 years. An hour north, are the caves of Atapuerca with evidence of being inhabited, as far back as 780,000 years ago, by the first men in Europe. Within an hour’s distance there are numerous ruins, and monuments still standing, which reflect the history of the Iberian Peninsula from pre-Roman to modern times. Over the years, Valladolid has become a modern and a well-communicated city. Valladolid is the capital of Castilla - Leon, and for that reason it is open to industry, new technology and culture. should contact the school about starting dates. Classes last 50 minutes. IH Valladolid offers different options: accommodation in host families, student residence (only in summer time), shared apartments, apart-hotel and hotel. But we highly recommend our students to stay in host families. The evenings and weekend are time for activities. Our goals are clear: we want the students to interact, to get to know our culture and to enjoy themselves. Through the excursion at the weekends or going out together, the teachers and the students get to know each other, and they become friends. This promotes the friendly, relaxed atmosphere we consider so essential. The students feel confident when speaking and participating, both in class and outside of it. Many times it isn’t even necessary to leave the school to participate in local cultural activities
