(85 days before the General Election)

County Clerk to draw names for position on the ballot in her office at 3:00 PM N.J.S.A. 19:14-12 September 3 Independent Candidate Withdrawal Deadline
(60 days before General Election)

Last day an Independent candidate can withdraw. Notice shall be provided to the appropriate filing office. N.J.S.A. 19:13-16 September 3 Municipal Proposition/Question Deadline
(60 days before General Election)

Last day for the governing body of a municipality, under certain circumstances, to file a request with the County Clerk for Proposition (public question) to appear on the ballot. N.J.S.A. 19:37-1.1 September 13 Vacancy Deadline
(51 days before General Election)

Last day a vacancy can occur for a candidate nominated in the Primary Election. N.J.S.A. 19:13-20 September 15 Deadline to Fill Vacancy

Last day to register to vote for the General Election. The Superintendent of Elections Office will be open until 9:00 PM. Deadline for Mail-in Ballot Application by Mail
(7 days before the General Election)

At any time not less than 7 days prior to the General Election in which a voter wishes to vote by mail, a voter may apply to the County Clerk for a Mail-In Ballot. N.J.S.A. 19:63-3 & 19:63-5 October 27 Sample Ballots, Prepared and Mailed
(Wednesday before General Election)

Sample Ballots shall be prepared and deposited in the post office addressed to each registered voter on or before 12 noon on the Wednesday preceding the General Election. N.J.S.A. 19:14-25 November 1 Deadline for Mail-In Ballot Application in Person (up to 3:00pm on the day before the election) A Mail-in Ballot Voter, who fails to apply by mail 7 days prior to the election, may apply in person to the County Clerk for a Mail-In Ballot on any day up to 3:00 PM the day before the election. Applications for recount of votes cast for a candidate at the General Election shall be th made on or before the 15 day after the election. N.J.S.A. 19:28-1 November 17 Application for Recheck of Voting Machines
(Within 15 days after the General Election)

Deadline to apply for recheck of voting machines by a defeated candidate or ten qualified voters (in the case of a public question). N.J.S.A. 19:52-6 December 2 Deadline to File Election Contest Petition
(Not later than 30 days after General Election)

The petition contesting any election to Public Office shall generally be filed in Superior Court no later than 30 days after the election. N.J.S.A. 19:29-3
