Come see for yourself

A year-round destination, McIntosh County is the
perfect escape from the big city with plenty of
things to see and do. Located in central Oklahoma, McIn-
tosh County is an easy drive and offers something for
everyone.
McIntosh County offers some of the state’s best land-
scapes, rich history, museums, arts, charming shops along
with friendly people and a diverse culture.
For those who like adventure, McIntosh County is home
to the state’s largest lake. Lake Eufaula has over 600 miles
of shoreline, making it a fisherman’s dream.
Lake Eufaula hosts many fishing tournaments each year,
bringing anglers from points all over the United States.
The waters are home to crappie, perch, catfish and bass, to
name a few.
Historians are not left out either. Not many areas of the
country can boast of such significant events as McIntosh
County. The Battle of Honey Springs, waged just north
of Checotah, was the largest battle of the Indian Terri-
tory fought during the War Between the States. Each year
memorial services are held to honor those who died during
the Battle of Honey Springs on July 17, 1863.
The battlefield site spans 1,000 acres and has six walking
trails and a visitor’s center.
Tribal heritage is a major part of our rich culture here in
McIntosh County, Oklahoma, at one time, has been home to
67 American Indian tribes. Native Americans in the Lake
Eufaula community come together each year during Labor
Day weekend to celebrate their rich native ceremonial his-
tory. This gathering includes traditional dancing, dancing
competitions, arts & crafts and food. These family-friendly
events are free and open to the public.
From the battle reenactments to the native Pow Wows,
visitors can watch as the state’s history comes to life before
their eyes.
We invite you to come explore, learn, play and see why
McIntosh County has something for everyone and has
become Oklahoma’s year-round travel destination. Come
join in the fun and see for yourself. Photo by Ashleigh Hodges

Eufaula Indian Community
Building a Foundation
The Eufaula Indian Community was
founded in 1984 by a small group of con-
cerned Muscogee (Creek) people, whom
envisioned the opportunity to promote
the Native American people in the area
through education, health, and self-
awareness. With a charter through the
Principal Chief of the Muscogee (Creek)
Nation, the Eufaula Indian Community
established itself as a legal entity with
power granted by the laws within the tribe.
Today, the community consist of approx-

With nearly 500 species of birds winging their way
across Oklahoma, this county is prime birdwatching ter-
ritory. Migratory birds pass through Oklahoma twice a
year along the central flyway of North America. Birdwatch-
ers will find surprises here such as American bald eagles,
American white pelicans, lesser prairie chickens and more.
If fishing is on your list, Lake Eufaula is the destination where
you want to be. With well over 600 miles of shoreline, the gentle
giant provides a vast variety of fish such as crappie, sand and
large mouth bass, stripers, buffalo and several types of catfish.
Eufaula has seven fantastic marinas to choose from that
make any boat ramp just a quick drive no matter where you’re
at on the lake.
So make your next stop to McIntosh County and beautiful

Peoples National Bank
Since our chartering 106 years ago, the
focus of Peoples National has remained
the same: our bank has been rooted in
this community since 1911.
We have remained on the same corner
in historic business district of down
town Checotah since 1911. But tech

Our facilities:
• 4 24-hour ATMS
• A Full-Service Drive-In Facility
• A Branch inside Wal-Mart
• Technology which gives customers
worldwide access.
Commenting this week on PNB’s 1911
chartering and its ongoing financial
commitment, CEO Robert Jennings said,
“For 106 years PNB has served this trade
area as a community bank should. Most
of our employees live, worship and shop
here. We are active in more than 30 civic
groups or events. Some customers have
shared our successful history for five
or six generations. They are individuals
and families and businesses who work
to improve the community. We think
that’s important,” Jennings said. “And
occasionally, we want to remind our
friends of our community outreach…
because our roots are deep…yet we focus
on the future!
“In 2014 PNB was given special recog-
nition for its stability and leadership by
the United States Comptroller of the Cur-

Drug Education & Rehabilitation

First, at Narconon, we don’t have “patients” or “victims” or “addicts.” We have students—

students who are learning to live a successful drug-free life. Here’s what else makes our program
different from all the rest:
