METEOROLOGY STATION: Latitude 03◦ 07’ Longitude 101◦ 39’

INTRODUCTION
Figure 1 : Location of University Malaya meteorology station

The University Malaya meteorology station are located at latitude 03◦ 07’ and longitude 101◦ 39’ at above M.S.C 104 meter. This station was managed under Department Of Geography of University Malaya. Location of this station was strategic because it place on the top of a hill which behind the Faculty Of Science. Currently, this station was conducted by two staff, Encik Ahmad Kusen and Encik Sugarkumar Varuthan as assistant lab. The climatic data collection were done by daily basis. Most of the data was used as references and reported to Malaysia Meteorology Department.

Furthermore, the climatic data were also used to those student who take research which related in weather monitoring. Student who take course in meteorology and climatology used this station as for field training.

DINE PRESSURE TUBE ANEMOGRAPH

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION This instruments used for recording the wind direction and speed in form of a paper chart at unit of millisecond.

THERMOGRAPH

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION Thermograph are parameter instrument to record and measures the air temperature with continuously using the chart recorder. The pen-point at the end of the lever touch on to the graph paper which controlled by the sensitive metallic coil by corresponding to the reading of thermometer. This instruments was housed in a thermometer shelter with particular designed as for permit the air circulation freely.

HYGROGRAPH

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION The hygrograph independently used to measures and records the relative humidity of the surroundings. The measurement unit are 0 to 100% of relative humidity.

RAINFALL RECORDER

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION This instrument used to collected and record of rainfall against the duration time. The measurement unit are millimeter. The automatic tilting action ensures for unlimited collecting capacity. Rain drain thru the funnel to the chamber collection causing a movement of the float. By that, the pen will mark on to the graph chart by moving up or down followed by the time. When the pen have reach on the top of the chart the chamber collection will tilts and empties. Then, the pen will return to the bottom of the chart to start recording again.

RAIN GAUGES

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION This a types of manual collection of rainfall. The volume of the collector is around 10 times of the volume of the measuring tube. Rainfall that exceed amount will spills into the overflow. The level of rainfall is reported by millimeters.

CAMPBELL STOKES SUNSHINE RECORDER

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION The sunshine recorder is used to collect the number of hours of sunshine per day. The glass sphere holder have a index between 40° NL (northern latitude) and 40° SL (southern latitude). The sunshine recorder cards are marked with hourly intervals which will burn a hole through the card when there a bright sunshine.

EVAPORATION INDICATOR GAUGE (HOOK GAUGE)

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION This evaporation pan is used for determine the evaporation rate of open water. This pan made by stainless steel. Amount of water inside the pan is 35.5 liter.

THERMOMETER

APPLICATION & DESCRIPTION In order to measure the temperature range, a set of maximum and minimum thermometers are used. A maximum thermometer has a constriction above the bulb that

permits the mercury to rise in the capillary tube but does not allow it to descend the capillary tube unless the thermometer is reset. The highest point that the mercury reaches indicates the maximum temperature for the period.

The minimum thermometer, on the other hand, gives the lowest temperature. It uses colored alcohol (because of its low freezing point). It is placed at an angle of about 20° from the horizontal. The black float called index needle is pulled downslope to the lowest temperature of the day by two forces; a) the surface tension at the top of the alcohol column and b) the force of gravity.
