INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION 2

Introduction

Due to the drastic and continuous changes in the permeating connectivity, globalization,

industries mergence, advanced technologies and increased competition stress from

deregulation, company managers are incessantly being defied with myriads of encounters. For

these managers to competently deal with the above challenges, they need to change from all

their traditional approaches and opt to having a more flexible company profile in terms of

communication technology, technical and sophisticated infrastructure and a superficial

organization. Even smart and competitive globally recognized companies have to make an

update on the same, in order to keep in track.

The IT groundwork in these various organizations is what is making them to delay in

changing to the standards that can comply with the general evolving market demands. Chief

technologist to these various companies always have the desire to help these managers update

the organization infrastructure, which many a times becomes impossible to them as the

databases are always incompatible and the data itself is concurrently of low quality. The initial

ground on which the company’s IT was constructed, favouring the control of cost rather than

strategy, is another factor that is limiting the Technologist to help out; an indication of the

breach between the chief managers and the computer science managers which otherwise needs

to be resolved.

The article confirms that the delay between information technology capability and

strategy is the desire of most organizations to concurrently transform to new structures that can

enable them compete comfortably in the evolved world markets, which becomes a critical issue

due to the inflexibility of the general infrastructure slowing down the intended strategy.

Therefore, information infrastructure is the main thing that needs to be looked into for a flexible

ease in change which will subsequently solve the lag, henceforth making it possible for

innovation and further research. The drastic change there after satisfies the costumer’s demand

and preferences.

According to Prahalad & Krishnan, (2002), a well organised companies have managed

to inaugurate e-business situates through closing the breech and leveraging information

technology to make them appealing to the eyes, attracting many customers, which, has not been

the case with the less established organizations. These few established companies, henceforth

have managed to make a great transformation in their interfaces making it possible to fill the

gap that was deterring them from the stiff competition

Actually, research has it that change is not just about establishment, but it is how

flexible the information interface has been designed. Taking the example of Amazon.com, a

very prosperous and effective company, which is just an online site that makes it possible for

other suppliers who cannot advertise their products to meet their customers.

The main thing that is complicating transformation of the large companies is the

inflexible structure that will entail a lot of cost for their change, which is an information from

a very experienced CEO.

From the explanations, there exists varied changes in the current state of information

Infrastructure business settings, the role that each and every member in a given company plays

towards each other and technologies involved are actually what are making the disconnection

between the directorial obligations and information substructure competences. This ought to

be thoroughly looked into otherwise a stagnation on the same will still be experienced.

Ideally, the article confirms that Business-Environment Changes increasing at a rapid

rate which is not the case with the businesses, an indication of an imbalance in the near future.

For these companies to be able to meet the set standards, they have to step up and close the

breech that exists between their environments (internal and external) and the info sub-structure.

Otherwise their incompetency will never be solved and they will continue to lag behind and
INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION 4

even come to more complicated situations which will entail getting aid from other companies,

an indication of added cost.

From the article, the progress of technology have drastically changed over the past years

which is an indication that the various components of many companies have also undergone

some sort of evolution. The old methods have been dropped and new advanced ones have been

put into consideration for specific missions. The technologies have made it possible and easier

to change the information infrastructure to a more flexible one, which subsequently, can

undergo a lot of transformation, as per to the desires of the managing directors in respect to the

market demands.

A lot of inventions and innovations have emerged and their execution requires specific

transformation that henceforth will make their executions possible and this can only happen if

drastic changes to the information infrastructure is put in action to a more supple and

operational one in regard to cost.

A company should take into consideration a lot of things before opting to adopt a certain

technology and a quick rush to one without intense research can lead to a negative results which

subsequently will indicate loss in terms of finances. Hence, an intense research will rescue the

company from risks that the given technology will come with, if the given technology meets

the intended operation and what changes it will really bring to the company.

For a company to conceptualise the jeopardies and inhibitions that can arise in the

course of the company’s livelihood, the overall company manager and the computer science

manager have to be in possession of a very clear and also similar charter. Still the same,

protection of primary data is very crucial for it is this given data that can be converted to a

language that the human brain can understand and put into practice.

For a clear framework to be perceived, the company have to put in place a constant

interface that satisfies the customer’s wants as it is said customer preference is the way out.
INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION 5

User interface applications that keeps on changing is only applicable to online clients who of

course have got different preferences; and this is made so to meet all their wants.

Role in strategy; the managers in various companies have to make sure that any

application that they put in place meets the goals of the intended strategies and this can be in

relation to the litheness of the information structure. Hence, when efficiency and innovation

are put together, a competitive reality is achieved which means a smoothly running

organization.

Quality problems; All companies should carefully check the challenges that their

customers undergoes as most of the times, IT specialist only tend to rectify and solve to

problems which are within the companies. Various directing managers should therefor research

into the market and know the problems that clients experiences.

Sourcing of applications; before sourcing, the given company should carefully analyse

the risks that it might come with more so when the company have to assign it to a third party.

Sourcing should be done in stages where the first stage entails custom built system, second is

packages received from the enterprise and lastly, is when a third party can be involved . But

before anything is done under this sector, the directing manager have to do a SWOT analysis

that will henceforth meet the role of the application.

Degree of change; any computer science department of each and every company that

have undergone transformation should intermittently check and categorize the given

application. The degree to which the application would have changed is hence the information

that the manager and the IT specialist will use to know the impacts that different business

strategies will have. The degree is always put on a scale of moderate, low and high.

Nature of data; to get a better grasp of the application structure, a company has to assess

the type and kind of data that it uses or that this given application runs. It should look whether

the data is public or trademarked and see which approach to handle it with. Application Service
INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION 6

Provider is always applicable in the case of public data which is contrary to the case when the

data is registered, as this given service can expose it to a lot of menaces.

Knowledge about business processes; Business processes domain are always

categorized as stable or evolving. The stable category is direct to the point as it shows the

regular operations and the overall expectations of the clients. On the other hand, evolving

category, as it depicts shows the expectation of the future as this category is always known to

be in growth process. An example of stable category is the company’s payroll while those that

are online in the various company’s websites falls under the evolving category.

Using the application portfolio chatter

For the business managers to be in the light about the company’s operations, the line

manager and IT managers have to work together to give out a clear profile. The two, depends

on each other for information and data. The given portfolio can help in determining the

weaknesses that a given infrastructure have which can be used to solve the various challenges.

Recording the application on the chatter is of great importance as it is essential to the

manager in knowing the investments that the company is making and hence planning on the

company’s expenditures.

Irrespective of the business category, flexibility is required as major adjustments have

to be made more so when it falls under the evolving sector, adjustments have to be made for

the company’s mission to be achieved.

Building flexibility in application infrastructure

Both the IT manager and line managers can identify the urgency of flexibility in

information and advise the operating manager subsequently on the need of making a

transformation within the company. Depending on the type or category of the business,

flexibility is advocated for more so in fulfilling the market demand. A stable type is advocated
INDUSTRIAL TRANSFORMATION 7

for more so in the internal operations of the company while an evolving category is mainly

applicable when the customer’s desires have to met.

The gap between the flexibility and efficiency can only be merged if the company

understands the weaknesses in the infrastructure and applicable technologies which can only

be made clear when explained by the line managers and IT managers.

Relevancy of the Context

The whole context is ideally relevant to the Indonesian companies as for a company to

have fruitful investments and at the same time satisfy the client’s wants, it has to undergo

various transformation on its applications. Both the manager, IT manager and line managers

have to jointly work together in the achievement of the company’s missions and agendas.
