Course
Introduction

The
objective
of
Social
Studies
11
is
to
develop
thoughtful,
responsible,
active
citizens
who
are
able
to

consider
multiple
perspective
and
make
reasoned
judgments
about
the
world
that
are
founded
on

Christian
principles.
The
Social
Studies
11
curriculum
will
provide
you
with
opportunities
to
reflect

critically
upon
events
and
issues
that
will
help
equip
you
to
examine
and
make
connections
with
the

past
and
consider
the
future.



Course
Themes

1. Politics
&
Government
(approximately
September
–
mid
November)

‐This
portion
of
the
course
will
allow
you
to
gain
an
understanding
of
the
Charter
of

Rights
&
Freedoms,
political
philosophies,
party
platforms
and
ideologies,
the
election

process,
and
the
structure
of
Canadian
government.


2. History
(approximately
mid
November
–
mid
April)

‐
Throughout
the
course
of
the
20th
century,
Canada
has
continued
to
change

dramatically
in
an
effort
to
become
independent
and
autonomous.
This
portion
of
the

course
will
help
you
gain
an
understanding
of
the
dynamic
regional,
cultural
and
ethnic

diversity
of
Canadian
society
and
insight
as
to
how
various
historical
events
have
shaped

Canada’s
development
as
an
autonomous
nation.



3. Human
Geography
(approximately
mid
April
–
June)

‐This
portion
of
the
course
will
help
you
gain
an
understanding
of
Canada’s
position
and

responsibilities
within
the
global
community
and
will
include
learning
about
the
United

Nations,
peacekeeping,
the
environment,
as
well
as
issues
surrounding
disparity
and

standards
of
living.

will

the

every
school

no

possible,
assignments
will
be

onto
the

in

PDF

too!

• You
have
full
access
to
all
information
on
the

and
may
access

at
the

encouraged

Homework
Submission


• Homework
is
due

in
the
appropriate
“IN
BOX”
at
the
start
of
each
class‐
no
exceptions.

This
means
that
your
homework
is:

‐Complete
and
immediately
ready
to
be
handed
in

‐Printed
off

in
hardcopy
format
(if
applicable)

• Homework
must
be
submitted
in
hardcopy
format.
Electronic
submissions
will
not
be

accepted
(i.e.
memory
card,
email
etc)

• Students
will
be
given
one
hard
copy
of
handouts
and
worksheets.
In
the
case
that

they
have
misplaced
their
hardcopy
or
if
they
were
absent
from
class,
the
student

is
responsible
for
locating
the
document
on
the
blog
and
printing
off
a
hardcopy


Late
Assignments


• Daily
Assignments
(worksheets)
are
due
at
the
beginning
of
class.
If,
for
whatever

reason
a
student
has
not
completed
their
assigned
work,
they
will
be
required
to
attend

lunchbunch



• Please
note!
Students
will
not
be
allowed
to
hand
in
assignments
once
it
has
been

marked
and
returned
to
the
rest
of
the
class.
No
exceptions!






Absences


• Students
will
only
be
allowed
to
make
up
assignments,
quizzes
and
tests
if
the
school

office
has
excused
their
absence
in
advance.


• You
will
only
be
able
to
make
up
tests
and
quizzes
if
you
have
received
an
excused

absence
from
the
WRCA’s
school
office
in
advance.
Tests
and
quizzes
will
receive
a
score

of
0
without
an
excused
absence.
