Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

PowerPoint is a great production tool that meets the UDL framework! Through the PowerPoint, students
are provided multiple representations of the material. They are provided visuals, auditory input, and
opportunities to practice. Also, students build their understanding and fluency through the graduated levels of
complexity. Students can set goals by referencing the lesson objectives. Lastly, this PowerPoint allows students
the choice between collaboration or individual work.

Lesson idea implementation:

This lesson will be introduced to students as practice done outside of the classroom. Students will review
this PowerPoint before coming to class. Students who don’t have the time or the resources to view this
PowerPoint at home can come in early to view it in the classroom. While working through the PowerPoint,
students are encouraged to utilize manipulatives such as coins and/or counters. During math block, we will
review the problems and students will be encouraged to ask questions. Through this, students will be active
during the lesson.

Reflective Practice:

Extending this lesson would involve implementing two-step word problems that involve adding and subtracting.
Also, problems that include key vocabulary that tells students what to do.

An example is:

CJ bought two footballs at the store. The store was running a buy one get one half off special. If one football
costs $5.00, how much money did CJ pay the store?
