The infantry carts ... description, handling and treatment manual

From 08/02/1941 ... Berlin 1941

A. General

The infantry carts (If 8) is a single axis, sprung vehicle that can be used in Mannschafts- or
horse-drawn carriage. Using the short pole several vehicles can be coupled successively.

The Inf. Carts used primarily for loading and entrainment required for the train a rifle company
on the battle-field weapons with ammunition and accessories.

The Inf. Cart has a carrying capacity up to 350 kg.

B. Description

I. Main hurry

(Figure 1-4)

. The Inf carts consists of the following main parts:

a) the box frame,

b) the wheels.

a) box frame

The box frame is made up of a frame and the frame using a1.

The support frame is a complex welded steel tube frame, which accommodates the gears and
the clutch, the drawbar. In him the insert is inserted.

Each wheel has a spring device, which is a2 from the spring cup and the vibrating leg a3
formed. The spring cup consists of two spring housings which can be moved together and
include a compression spring. The top of the spring housing is mounted an eye-bolt secured to
the frame by a bolt a4 frame. The pressure of the cart is transmitted through the spring cup on
the connected by articulated swing arm, thus on the recorded in the storage a5 wheel. The
swing arm itself is at the bottom of the box frame in an axis transversely disposed to the
longitudinal axis of the truck mounted a6 rotatable and is mother a7 and lock washer held. A
held on the axis of the swing arm by parallel key groove and stop a8 used with unloaded carts
for receiving the spring pressure. A Zurrbolzen which is resiliently mounted in a bore of the
oscillating arm and having a protruding button A9, used to define the knuckle.

In the longitudinal axis of the underside of the support frame a stronger pipe A10 is welded,
whose front end is bent upward, is stiffened by a reinforcing plate and provided with a socket
A11. This refers to the drawbar. She has two reinforcements with holes for the key bolt. The
left gain is worked out accordingly to secure the pin from falling out. The rear end of the tube
has a flange for attachment of the spring clutch, and two stops which limit the lateral
movement of the muscle man hook.

At the bottom of the box frame a support for supporting the Inf. Barrow are front right and left
ever welded. Prior to each is a strap eyelet.

Two holders are located on the front wall of the box frame for receiving the short drawbar.

Are a12 above two horizontal and vertical sling swivels on the sides of the box frame.

The use a1 serves as cargo space for the device and the ammunition. He is attached steel
plate and the box frame with clamps. To protect the unit wooden strips are riveted on the
floor and on the inner walls of the insert. In the corners of the floor has water drainage holes.

The spring clutch a13 is used to connect multiple Inf. Carts using the short drawbar. Parts of
the spring clutch spring bolts with spring nut and cotter pin, the plate and the swank hook. The
spring clutch is inserted into the tube at the bottom of the frame A10 frame and screwed
through the plate to the flange.

The front key bolt a14 is used to connect the shafts with the Inf. Carts, the rear bolt a15 key
secures the inserted in the swank short drawbar hook an attached Inf. Barrow. Both key bolts
are fastened by chains to the box frame.

b) Wheels

The wheels are rubber wheels and b consist of the hub to the steering knuckle and the
embossed steel plate wheel disc with rim. The hub b2 is fixed with its flange to the web b3 by
4 screws.

The wheels are available in two different versions:

The wheels of the first series have Preßstofflager, a bolt circle diameter of 112 mm and a depth
of pressing the 0th

The wheels of the final production have tapered roller bearings. Here, the hole diameter is
100 mm and the pressing depth 36 mm.

The steering knuckle b1 is inserted into the bearing at the fork and is held by the Zurrbolzen
with button. Its scope is used as a running surface for the hub. The rear knuckle has a collar
and a front thread for the secured by spring ring round nut. The hub is slid onto the stub axle
and is supported by the round nut.

The wheel cap closes the hub from the outside and is secured by a snap ring.

The tires (size 3.50 to 19) consists of tire, tube and rim tape.

The pressure of the inflated tire should be 1.5 Atü.

II. Related Parts and Accessories

. For each Inf carts include:

• a tiller, short,

• a fork tiller,

• a hand tiller,

• a Ortscheit,

• a tarp.

a) Associated Parts

1. tiller, short

(Figures 1 and 10)

The short drawbar c2 appends the Inf. Barrow at the swank hook of another Inf. Barrow. The
back has the same shaft as the hand draw. When not in use it is placed in their holders on the
front face of Inf. Cart.

2. fork tiller

(Figure 13)

The fork is used to transport the tiller c3 Inf. By horse-drawn trolley. It is generally added every
second Inf. As equipment carts.

The carrier frame is made of steel tubing and terminates in a rear shaft c4 with hole for
connection to the sleeve of Inf. Barrow. At the front end of the shaft there is a hook for the
Ortscheit. The carrier frame is connected to the shaft by a hinge. The two beams are in the
center of each a joint that is determined by a key c5 bolt in the extended position. The front
ends of the spars a vertical loop (Aufhalteöse) for the handling of Sielengeschirrs and a
horizontal loop (carrying eye) for the tether of the comb and the suspension pad belt (Figure
11 and 12).

3. hand draw

(Image 1)

The hand draw c1 is used for locomotion of Inf. Barrow by Mannschaftszug. A pipe bend is at
the bottom of the hand draw as a support when placed on the ground. The handle terminates
in a rear shaft, with which it is inserted into the sleeve of the box frame. Through a hole in the
key pin is inserted and secured by rotating.

4. Ortscheit

(Figure 13)

The Ortscheit c6 as well as the fork tiller generally every second Inf. Carts added as standard.
The length of the Ortscheits is 710 mm (710 HgN 25321).
5. Plane

(Figure 15)

The tarpaulin is used to protect the loaded device against rain and dust. It is secured with
Schnallgurten to the cart.

b) Accessories

The equipment consists of:

• an accessory box,

• eight Schnallgurten,

• four pulling ropes,

• four pull straps.

1. Accessories Box

(Figure 14)

1. for four MG 34 as LMG (Figure 5 and 7),

2. for the light mortar 36 (5cm) (Figure 8 and 9).

C. Handling

I. Loading

To load the Inf. Barrow corresponding to the unit attachment devices are first screwed onto
the rack and load the application. Only then are the arms in question lodged in the fixture and
to strap with the Schnallgurten. It should be noted that the 4 lMG in Inf. Carts any hard or
heavy objects are placed, otherwise the weapons are damaged. If the hand tiller is not used, it
is also within the fixture to accommodate (Figures 6 and 9).

The way of introduction of the various devices can be seen in the following screens:

to ensure that the joints of the bars are set with the key pin.

After loosening the fork tiller of Inf. Carts the back half of the fork tiller with Ortscheit to fold
forward and to attach to the lining bag rider on the horse's back. The folded drawbar is to be
held at the joint by the rear suspension belt (Figure 11 and 12). The key pin is to be inserted
again.

D. Treatment

I. Changing a wheel

To change wheels of the Zurrbolzens button (Figure 2, a9) is retracted to the stop and pulled
the wheel from the wheel bearing. To protect the wheel bearings from dirt, the box frame
must be supported during the wheel change. After fitting the new wheel is to ensure that the
Zurrbolzen re-engages in the locking of the steering knuckle.

II. Punctures

Punctures are fixed as in motorcycles. The jacket will be removed with the help of
Aufzieheisens and repaired the air hose with the rubber repair agent from the accessory box in
the usual way.

III. Maintenance
When repairing the Inf.Karrens is particularly necessary to ensure that in the corners, no dirt
or moisture remains seated, as this rusting is favored. After cleaning with water all parts of the
car should be dried with a cloth. The paint must not be oiled or greased. Fractures of the
resilient mounting, bending of bolts and loss of key bolts are rectified immediately by the
armorer.

The lubrication of the wheels is done by the armorer, because this, the hub must be
dismantled.

Damage to the paint are to prevent rusting, as soon as possible repair.

E. Repair and Replacement

All repairs must be performed by the armorer.

If replacement parts can not even be made, they must be requested on the prescribed
replenishment service routes.

F. Tension

For covering include:

• 25 breast harness, complete but ihne neck coupling,

• Shear belt and Schwunggurt for buggy,

• Girth,

• 22 simplified bridle (like the If. 9).

Description of the Horse see H. Dv. 476/2.

The handle bars are carried by the shear belt. You are so strapped at the crest pillow in the
rings for the upper leaf stripping, that they are the upper leaf stripping. The buckles of the
shear belt lie close to the rings, the buckling straps facing down.

The shear belt must be verschnallt that the Aufhalteösen the drawbar rails lying on the
breastplate. In this position the drawbar rails acts in uneven terrain at parades in the sudden
twists a shock the drawbar rails on the breastplate and not directly on the horse's body.

The handling stripping are looped through the Aufhalteösen to the drawbar Holmen and the
handling is so strapped that in stopping the deal and not the shear belt to stop the vehicle. The
handling stripping between the shear belt.

The Schwunggurt below the horse's body is strapped and prevents them from turning up
behind the shear belt around the drawbar rails. The side-mounted on the drawbar Holmen
eyebolts limit the displacement of shear belts and Schwunggurt.

With bridle 22 (simplified) the buckling straps of the back pieces are strapped in the inner
rings of the double ring snaffle bit. While on the bridle Doppelringtrensengebiß to the jaw
angles located on without pulling them. If the bridle reins strapped only in the outer rings, so
is strapped sharp; they are strapped in both rings is soft strapped.
