About 10 months
ago a production company asked if we (13thFLOOR) would like to write and perform a youth magazine TV program, our response - “of course”! After leaving the drafted scripts in the drawers for months, the start of winter just felt like the perfect time to get the cameras rolling. Brrr. In the meantime though, myself and Flaps twigged the magazine concept a bit, by creating something completely fresh. In short, it’s a fictional show about a production company/social activists that raise social issues through their magazine program. The inter-office drama dialogue is a spin-off of the greater story theme which are responses to realtime issues in our country. For instance, we act like journalists and presenters with real celebs, etc. about current issues. Confused yet? Then just picture MTV meets Gossip Girl meets 3rd Degree. Nevermind, just wait and see. Thirty-one 60-minute tapes and two pilot episodes later, we now enter post production phase which takes an insane amount of hours to work through.

Once we’re all happy with the final product, the idea is to find a buyer then aim to do 18 episodes for season one. Our target market is teenagers and our ideal channels for broadcasting would probably be SABC 2 or Vuzu (DSTV Channel). I play the lead anchor as Warren and Steynie works on set as the continuity director. It’s an amazing experience working behind the scenes and getting back onto the stage. Please pray with us as we complete the first episodes, but more importantly pray that we find sponsors who would buy our product.

My Book of the Month
A Million Miles In A Thousand Years by Donald Miller
Full of beautiful, heart-wrenching, and hilarious stories, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details one man's opportunity to edit his life as if he were a character in a movie. Years after writing a best-selling memoir, Donald Miller went into a funk and spent months sleeping in and avoiding his publisher. One story had ended, and Don was unsure how to start another. But he gets rescued by two movie producers who want to make a movie based on his memoir. When they start fictionalizing Don's life for film--changing a meandering memoir into a structured narrative--the real-life Don starts a journey to edit his actual life into a better story. A Million Miles in a Thousand Years details that journey and challenges readers to reconsider what they strive for in life. It shows how to get a second chance at life the first time around.

World Cup Projects
Feel it, it was here! After months of planning and preparation, 13thFLOOR had a pretty successful ministry time during the World Cup. Even though we had to cancel our annual WinterBreak program and didn’t get any Ghanaian fans to stay at our campus, everything turned out great. Our Blue team spent three weeks in Stellenbosch where they worked on the KeepThemSafe project and the Red team was in Mamelodi, Pretoria also working alongside local churches serving 1000’s of kids daily by means of games, workshops, soccer clinics and evening shows. Here’s a big Ayoba to our guys who had a quick break and just re-started their usual touring schedule!

Claim To Fame
When Flaps called me to say that he just passed a huge billboard on the N1 Highway with me on it, we had to bet on a free lunch for me to believe it. Now before you get too excited, it’s just a picture taken from a stock photographer who I did a shoot with more than a year ago. I don’t have my own show, it’s nothing to do with 13thFLOOR and I definitely don’t care about your credit. I do think it’s time for me to up my price for future shoots though, being a future celeb and all.

The Ugly Truth
After living in the hood of Mamelodi for four months, completely safe and often leaving my house and car door unlocked, it took only four hours during a shoot at my previous shack, people broke into our quantum and of course only took my laptop amidst many other things there. Oh, the irony. My local friends were way more devastated than I’m supposed to be and on top gives me an analysis of how it happened, then ended with the cold ugly truth of why. I’m no longer a local community member, but a foreign visitor. I think hearing that was worse than my laptop being stolen.
