I am a student on the NCTJ accredited MA News Journalism course at Cardiff University,

and I am seeking seeking employment at a publication with a preference for writing on
the topics of politics, society and international affairs from June onwards.

The Cardiffian – September 2017-Present

I currently write for the hyperlocal website The Cardiffian as part of my postgraduate degree,
this requires me to work my two news patches in Cardiff to gather news stories, as well as
writing them up as part of our weekly production days.

As part of my postgraduate course, I will also undertake work experience at the Manchester
Evening News and Sky News newsdesks in April.

Liverpool Echo – April 2016-April 2016

I undertook work experience at the Liverpool Echo’s communities desk, where I was
responsible for writing articles and researching stories relating to community life in the
Merseyside area.

The Gryphon – June 2016-June 2017

During my undergraduate degree, I was selected by the Editor-in-Chief to help run the views
sections of the campus paper, The Gryphon. During this time I worked with a team of
student writers, holding weekly meetings to suggest ideas and help with writing articles. I
was also responsible with laying the views section of the print product every week on Adobe

The Blurt Foundation – September 2015-December 2015

I was responsible for drafting blog ideas and articles about self-care for those with mental
health issues, as well as raising awareness, for the charity The Blurt Foundation.


Thomas Read Bursary winner, NCTJ

The NCTJ awarded me with the prestigious Thomas Read Bursary in 2017, an award for
exceptional disabled journalists to provide work placements and financial assistance during
their studies.

Two time Article of the Month Winner, Backbench

In May 2014 and November 2013, the political blog Backbench awarded me Article of Month
for my articles on the American radio host Rush Limbaugh and Scientology respectively.

Article of the semester winner, The Gryphon

My investigative piece on anti-semtisim in the Labour Party was chosen as the Best Views
Article of Semester 2 by the Editor-in-Chief.

Other Interests/skills
 Fully trained in the usage of Adobe Indesign, Adobe Premier and Adobe Photoshop.
 Trained in photography and video recording skills to NCTJ standard, including usage
of Sony Handycam and Canon Powershot cameras.
 Long-term blogger for the award-winning site Backbench, where I served as
Education Editor, Lead Writer and Sub-Editor, as well as a commentator.
 Trained in how to visualise data via tools such as Tableau and Carto, as well as how
to extract data from websites such a, open source data and also via FoI
 Trained in how to use google analytics to cater towards an audience, and how to
promote pieces to ensure they get a wide viewership.

During my undergraduate degree, I was a member of the University of Leeds Fencing Team,
specifically playing as a sabreur in inter-university matches.
