# Using Trade Secrets & Motivation to Beat the Game

II. “Trick Factor”:

The rim of the hoop is narrower than in usual basketball games and shaped like an oval. The
balls are over inflated so that they bounce off the hoop, and the hoop is placed to high for a
regular shot.

## III. Winning the Game

Get ready!, Set!, Shoot! The first thing Koore wants to do is exert the energy on the ball while
it’s at rest. ​Even though the ball will resist change because it has inertia, it has the potential to
move forward.​ ​Since the ball is over inflated, it have more mass.​ ​Therefore if Koore shoots the
ball harder, the ball will have more acceleration, so it might be good for her to throw the ball with
less force than usual or she might overthrow.​ ​To win the game, Koore should to try to swish the
ball, so that it won’t touch the rim or the backboard.​ ​However, the rim is shaped like an oval so
it’s harder to get the ball through the hoop.​ When Koore shoots the ball, if the ball touches the
rim, it’s speed and direction will be altered because all objects will remain in motion until a force
acts on them. ​Multiple forces would be acting on the ball or decreasing its kinetic energy,
including gravity, friction from the air, and especially the rim of the hoop.​ ​If Koore’s shot​ ​hits the
rim, the rim would push against the ball and make it bounce back.​ ​All of these would change the
ball’s velocity. ​Once Koore gets the ball through the hoop, she’s won the game. ​You got it
Koore!!!! You better get it in or else… !!
