Humans are making huge leaps forward in scientific discoveries In 1996 scientists created the first cloned animal, dolly the sheep. After Dolly s creation Pope John Paul told the world that suck experiments were dangerous. After his speech many countries such as Italy and Argentina banned such experiments to go on in their country. But the more powerful countries such as the US of A and Japan have allowed all types of cloning and experiments other than actual complete human cloning. Humans are making huge leaps forward in scientific discoveries, since the first clone in 1996 humans have been able to create whole organs from just liquidised cells. A story of Genetic Modifications great potential is that of now 7 year old American boy Alexander Locke. On average every person on this planet has at least 6 mutated up genes some of which don t matter, others are fatal. Alexander started off with just a cough, he went to the local doctors and they said it was just Bronchiolitis, prescribed him some antibiotics and told them to bring him back if it got worse. It did. When Alexander and his parents returned he was transferred to the hospital. For the next 9 months he underwent a series of tests for any possible diseases for doctors could not come up with a conclusion for why he wasn t getting any better. Eventually he was diagnosed with SKID Severe Combined Immune Deficiency Basically he didn t have an immune system at all. Any viral bacterial or fungal disease or infection would have killed him. This disease is often referred to as the bubble boy disease because those inflicted by it have to be kept in an air tight, filtered room. Even in this condition, patients weren t expected to live longer than a year. Normally SKID can have its effects reduced by regular bone marrow implants, as the bone marrow is what produces and stabilises the immune system, BUT his parents could not find a suitable donor. Instead they looked into genetic therapy as a way to help their child. Over the next two months doctors worked on isolating and fixing the mutated gene. Not all SKID cases are genetic. After the two months of working they started putting the genetically modified cells back into his body and allowed them to multiply till they became the majority. That was 5 years ago. If he hadn t of had the genetic work done he wouldn t have been here today. Genetic research has provided a way for all humans to have their own medical future on CD-ROM. This way you will be able to determine what possibility you have of getting what disease and it will make prevention or cures a lot easier because you can prepare for it since birth. The bio-molecular is a much safer way to cure diseases. In a scientific experiment scientists developed a super mouse this super mouse was enhanced so that it produced higher levels of brain protein thus it had a higher IQ or intelligence quota as well as higher physical strength and stamina. Some of these tests include one where two mice of the same treatment were placed in shallow Smokey water. Under the water there was a hidden platform where they could stand on. At first it took both mice the same time to find the platform by accident. But the second the super mouse swam straight to where the platform was and the normal one found it by accident, again.

For physical tests both mice were placed on two treadmills <DRAW> The super mouse lasted twice as long as the normal mouse. You may say, well there only mice BUT the director of the project believes that such modifications are ready to start being worked on, it is only the legal implications that is stopping the work and funds needed. Scientists believe that the first person to live to 200 is alive today, what they don t know is how old he is now. Humans have invented, discovered and mastered more stuff in the past 30 years than they have any time before that. I have a question to put to you..... Raise your hand if you think any of these don t exist: Draw

Anti-gravity, miniature suns on earth, invisibility and Teleportation.

Hands up those of you who think that they all do exist? In truth they all do..... Anti-gravity some of you might of seem on TV or actually been on one, I m talking about the bullet trains or air trains in Japan and the US of A. These trains are called air trains for a reason, that I that they float on air. This works by using just normal everyday materials at very low temperatures to create immense gravitational fields. Such materials are yttrium, barium or just copper oxide. They need to be cooled down to -200 degrees Celsius, to do this they use just everyday liquid nitrogen which costs about as much as milk. Fusion- Fusion technology works by forcing two hydrogen atoms together to make them fuse (hence fusion) and release vast amounts of energy and create heat of up to 10 to 100 million degrees. This is exactly how the sun works. The only problem is that at that temperature the hydrogen gas can incinerate anything in its path. So to stop total disaster the only place in the world where these fusion reactors named Tokamak exist is..... France. BUT to stop the gas melting through the machine and turning everyone into a gas it uses immensely powerful electro Quadrupole magnets. These magnets are so powerful that they can hold any matter and it creates a vacuum right on the edge. This is the same principle as the Large Hadron Collider. So far scientists have only been able to have a fusion reaction in action for up to 30 seconds. They are currently working on creating a larger and more powerful fusion reactor. Because once they have the larger reactor they can introduce the right formula to make the reaction self 2

containing, that is, everlasting, much the same way that the sun works. This will rid the world of all its energy needs, solve global warming and although it sounds scary it is actually a lot safer than you may realise.

Invisibility- Alright so it s not complete invisibility BUT considering that they started working on this in 2008 it isn t bad how far they have go so far. So far scientists have been able to create an artificial material that is invisible to electro-magnetic radiation and microwaves. This means that nothing other than don t hide behind it in an event of a nuclear blast. This works by using an artificial material created by scientists dubbed meta-materials. How they work is scientists put copper in to plastic as if it were a circuit board and these patterns in the copper act as large atoms, for it is the atoms that determine what you see. The next stage is to bend photons. Scientists have already been able to bend red and blue light in the same way. Full invisibility is just decades away. Teleportation- Teleportation has existed for over 10 years. Since 1993 scientists have been teleporting individual protons of light on a regular basis, making improvements all the time. Small scale teleportation is as far as humans can go so far... How this teleportation works is that it uses a super computer named The Mare Nostrum. For what a human can do in 10 million years one of <SHOW CLASSPAD> these, it would take the super computer one second. Anyway how it teleports is by sort of cloning it. It takes an image of the original object and analyses it. To do this accurately you have to completely unravel it, in other words destroy it. BUT the resulting image is made with individual atoms by thousands of small machines. The resulting product is EXACTLY the same as the original was. BUT for this to happen to a human would have huge moral implications. Because if you were to teleport a human you would first have to be destroyed, and this raises the question, would you still be in control of our bodies? It would be very hard to tell because the new Person would have ALL of your memories and believe that they are you and that it works, it is information of your make up that is transported not actual matter. Space elevator- NASA is currently working on creating a space elevator. 90% or fuel and hardware are used to get up out of the first 300 km. So to avoid expending all this expensive rocket fuel scientists are designing a way to get an elevator up through the first 300 km. The way they are planning to build this elevator is by centrifugal force. As you know, if you spin a ball on a string the ball stays spinning and can resist gravity the same would work if it were the ball (or earth spinning). Everyday materials such as steel and titanium are not strong enough to resist such force and would break apart. So NASA has designed and created a material that is 1x50 atoms think and as strong as diamonds, these are CARBON NANOTUBES. Nano tubes are made with the same atomic structure or diamonds but in cylinder form and as flexible as fibre. The only thing stopping them building such a machine is that nano tubes are easy to make but when made are usually only at the most a meter long, which is not enough to get man to space so NASA is offering a half million dollar prize to someone who comes up with a way to join nano tubes or creates on that exceeds the 300 km distance needed. Such a task is still being done by private groups all around the world.

Many of these inventions are expected to have prototypes used in the world within the next 30 years. Either way all of these will have dramatic and life changing effects on human kind and our children. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
