KNOWN ISSUES CONVERTING OLDER HYDRAULIC FRACTURE CASES

Prior to the 2014 General Release, hydraulic fracture cases were typically quite large due to the high
volume of “RG” or “REFINE” keywords which were required. The new keyword system for representing
fractures is much more streamlined, and when an older dataset with hydraulic fractures is opened in
Builder, it will convert the original dataset to the new keyword system. Builder will make every attempt to
re-create the fractures as expected. However, there are some known changes in behavior and the
converted fractures should be reviewed.

If you have converted a case which contains microseismic data, the microseismic checkbox in the
hydraulic fractures dialog will not be selected because Builder has no quick way of knowing which
microseismic stage to pre-select in the combo box. However, if the correct stage is re-selected, the
corresponding filters are restored.

If the original dataset contains “SRV” or complex fractures, it is expected that the grid blocks included in
the fractures may vary from the original case, but the connection options will be honored.

In previous versions, formulas may have been used extensively for defining property values in the high
permeability regions of the fracture. If you are converting a case like this, please review what properties
you are trying to generate. Trying to maintain these types of formulas can be prone to error due to the
order dependence of the keywords and the updates to the hydraulic fracture definitions. It is
recommended that override properties associated with the fractures are used instead. If the property in
question is not available for selection in the Builder interface, the BLOCKGROUP associated with the
fracture in question can be used and properties can be specified using the BG keyword.

CMM files generated in versions prior to the 2014 General Release which reference SILENTEXEC
information (for running Builder silently), will have to be re-created in the newer version of Builder using
the CMOST Master Dataset Creator. The case will not run otherwise. Refer to the Builder manual for
more information regarding the creation of CMM files.

KNOWN RESTRICTION WHEN IMPORTING GOHFER FILES INTO BUILDER

As part of the 2015 General Release, GOHFER files which are in CMG format can be imported. However,
we currently have the restriction that only the first fracture in the file will be imported to the fracture stage.
This restriction will be removed in later releases.

COMPATIBILITY WITH DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF .NET AND WINDOWS REDISTRIBUTABLE

REQUIREMENTS

The 2015.10 version of CMOST and Builder / Results require a minimum of .NET 4.0, Microsoft Visual C+
+ Redistributables for 2010 and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for 2012 in order to launch.

Known .NET Related Issues

.NET 4.0: CMOST appears to hang or is really slow to respond (only some computers)
- This is a known issue in .NET 4.0 for which Microsoft has provided a patch.
- Please try installing the patch for .NET 4.0 (KB 2484841) which is located in the “Extras” folder on
the installation DVD.
- The slowdown issues can also be fixed by installing .NET 4.5.1 or .NET 4.5 with the patch that is
located in the “Extras” folder.

.NET 4.5: Buttons don’t become enabled

- This is a known issue in .NET 4.5 for which Microsoft has provided a patch.
- It is highly recommended that the patch in the “Extras” folder is installed.
o Windows 7: Please install KB 2750147
- Without the patch, some items in the CMOST interface will be disabled when they shouldn’t be
and you will have problems running CMOST jobs.
- The problem can also be fixed by upgrading to .NET 4.5.1.

Windows Redistributables

The 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 redistributable have to be installed
otherwise WinProp and CMOST 2015 will have problems running. The 2015.10 version of Builder /
Results requires the 2012 redistributable in order to launch. All of the required redistributables are
included in the “Extras” folder on the installation DVD and this release will attempt to install the
redistributables if they are not already on your system. Since they are required, it is also recommended
that the latest service packs for the operating system which you are working on, have been installed to
help ensure compatibility with the redistributables. If you are working with a platform / service pack
combination that is not supported by Microsoft, there might be issues when trying to run / use
redistributables on that operating system.

KNOWN ISSUE WITH SILENT INSTALLATIONS

If you have previously installed the CMG software in a location other than the default (C:\Program Files
(x86)\CMG), you will need to use the command line parameter INSTALLDIR to specify where you would
like the 2015 General Release to be installed. If you do not specify the location using INSTALLDIR, the
software will be installed to the default location.

If you plan on installing the 2015 General Release silently, the required version of .NET (4.0 or greater)
has to be installed beforehand. In regards to the required redistributables (the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of
the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for 2010 and the 64 bit version of the Microsoft Visual C++
Redistributables for 2012), the silent install will attempt to install them for you. However, if there are any
issues with their installation, they will have to be installed separately. All of the required redistributables
are included in the “Extras” folder on the installation DVD.

REPRISE VERSION 11.0

Starting in 2014, all CMGL software now use version 11.0 of the RLM License Server Administration on
the license server. CMG strongly recommends that you upgrade your license server to RLM version 11.0,
though this is not strictly necessary - you will still be able to run 2014 versions of our software while using
an earlier (RLMv9 or higher) license server.

Installing the 2015 General Release CDROM will automatically upgrade RLM to version 11.0 on Windows
and Linux_x64. Please make sure any roaming licenses are checked in before installing the Interim
release.

KNOWN ISSUES WHEN WORKING WITH THE NEW RESULTS 3D VIEWER

When working with the new 3D view in Results 3D, the transparency feature can cause Results to crash
on some ATI FirePro cards and might show up on other hardware. To fix this crash, you can modify the
Results 3D icon in Launcher to include the switch “-dt3d”. If Results 3D is re-loaded with the switch set,
the crash should no longer occur. To modify an icon in Launcher, right-click on the icon and then select
Modify Icon to change its properties. A field for entering command line switches is available.

If you are working on a computer that has an integrated graphics card and you start experiencing crashes
when working with Results 3D, we have found that updating the graphics driver can sometimes fix this
issue. Please be cautious when updating the graphics driver and ensure that the updated driver is
compatible with your machine. Please contact CMG support if you are encountering random crashes in
Results.

When using the Periodic Update functionality in the new 3D view, there is a possibility that Results 3D
may crash during the update process (however it is highly dependent on the case being simulated). If you
encounter any issues with this, we recommend that you use Periodic Update with the 3D Legacy view.

SCREEN SAVERS

Use of screen savers or energy savers may severely interfere with simulator execution. Please disable all
screen savers and energy savers before beginning simulation work. If security is an issue, the "Blank
Screen" screen saver interferes the least.

SUPPORT FOR UAC ON MICROSOFT VISTA AND WINDOWS 7

CMGL software is supported on Microsoft Vista Professional x64 Edition and Microsoft Windows 7
Enterprise. It is not supported for other editions/platforms of Vista or Windows 7.

The Reprise License Server Administration Utility must be run with Administrator privileges.

All other applications will run with User Account Control (UAC) enabled if they have been installed using
the CMG setup program.
AUTOMATIC ADDITION OF TIMEOUTALL TO OPTIONS FILE WITH UAC

When installing or repairing, the following lines will be added to the ISV options file (RLMSecure/cmgl.opt
by default):

TIMEOUTALL 120
REPORTLOG +..\logs\cmgusage.log
ROTATE DAILY

On Windows 7 and Windows Vista machines, if UAC is turned on, this new functionality may not work as
expected. In this case, the user needs to manually modify the options file or move the options file to a
location that is accessible and update the ISV line in the license file. Please refer to the documentation
<CMG_HOME>/RLMSecure/DOC/RLM_Enduser.html for additional information about the ISV options file.

LAUNCHING JOBS WITHOUT CREDENTIALS (PASSWORD) FROM LAUNCHER

The current version of Launcher supports the queuing of jobs to be run locally without providing
credentials (a password). This is called "Embedded Mode". There are some limitations to running in this
mode.

You may enable Embedded Mode in two ways:

- When you install from this CD, you are queried as to whether you wish to work with a Password or in
Embedded Mode.
- After Launcher is installed, you may select Embedded Mode from the Configure Local Job Service
dialog. This dialog is accessed through the Configuration -> Configure Local Job Service menu.

There are some important things to note with this configuration option:

- When you select Embedded Mode from the setup program, this installs the CMG Job Service as a
Manual service. By default, the service will not be started unless an Administrator explicitly starts it via
the Control Panel.
- The first time a user starts Launcher after having installed this release, the startup mode of the CMG
Job Service is checked. If the CMG Job Service is set for Automatic startup, Launcher is configured to
require a password when jobs are submitted to the Local job queue (Service Mode). If the CMG Job
Service is set for Manual startup, Launcher is configured to run in Embedded Mode.
- At any time an Administrator may change the startup mode of the CMG Job Service to be Automatic.
Users who have already run Launcher before this update will not see it applied; they must change
their preference in Launcher.
- Users may change their preference between Service Mode and Embedded Mode as they choose;
however, if the CMG Job Service was set to Manual startup a user with Administrator rights must start
the service.

In addition, Launcher behaves differently when running in Embedded Mode:

- Launcher takes on the role of the CMG Job Service when running in Embedded Mode. It will start
queued jobs as processors come available.
- Launcher must stay running in order for queued jobs to be launched at the appropriate time. If
Launcher is exited or if the user logs out, the jobs will not be launched until the next time Launcher is
started.
- If more than one user is running Launcher in Embedded Mode on a given machine, there is no
communication between the Launchers and more jobs may be launched than there are processors
available. The same is true if the computer is being used as a compute node for a CMG Cluster.
- It is recommended that if more than one user will be simultaneously using a computer or if the
computer will be a compute node in a CMG Cluster that Launcher is run in Service Mode.

Note that you must still provide credentials when sending jobs to a remote computer (CMG Compute
Node and Microsoft HPC Cluster).

PROVIDING CREDENTIALS WITH A SMART CARD FOR QUEUEING JOBS

If your organization uses a smart card system for credential verification, it is possible that the credentials
change too often for the CMG Job Service to log in and impersonate the job submitted with the
credentials active at the time of submission. If this is the case, you may use Launcher in Embedded
Mode.

COMPATIBILTY BETWEEN DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF LAUNCHER

Launcher will delete Microsoft HPC Scheduler information from the list of Remote Schedulers when an
older version of Launcher (version 2012.21 and earlier) is opened. It is recommended that users remove
older Launcher icons from their desktop to prevent this from accidentally happening.

COMPATIBILITY OF THE JOB SERVICE BETWEEN DIFFERENT RELEASES

When uninstalling a CMG release, it is expected that the newest version of the Job Service will be kept
when multiple releases exist on the computer. If you are running Launcher in Service Mode, uninstalling
the Interim Release may cause jobs to hang in previous versions of Launcher because the newer version
of the Job Service might not be compatible with older releases. To replace the newer job service with an
older version, you can do the following:

- Go to Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Administrative Tools --> Services and stop
'CMG Job Service' and 'CMG CMOST Host Service'.
- Go to the directory where you have the CMG software installed (i.e. C:/Program Files(x86)/CMG) and
delete the CMGJobService and CMOSTHostService folders.
- Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and select the previously installed CMG Software
release.
- Click Repair to restore the older versions of the CMG Job Service and CMOST Host Service.
- Open Launcher and go to Configuration --> Configure Local Job Server and select the checkbox 'Use
job service to submit any jobs' option.
