The Summoning of Shug-Voosath

Note: Portions of this ritual can be found in James Ambuehl's tale of

the Cthulhu Mythos called "Summoning the Ancient Evils." (There
are even hints of this prohibited ceremony contained in The Whispers
of Altuas, but nothing definite.) The rest of the black rite can be
found in Altuan Rituals, in its 19th century English translation by an
anonymous member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
Although never listed in any official documents, I am fortunate to
have a photocopy of the way-beyond-rare book from a trusted source.
I may release more of the document in time; for now "The
Summoning of Shug-Voosath" will have to satisfy your curiosity. On
page 23 of a digest-sized chapbook, one can find the following:

The Summoning of Shug-Voosath

...this is a simple rite, one that even most fledgling wizards may safely
perform, in terms of getting results. Draw upon the ground a
standard pentagram. By candlelight from the four corners recite,
"Shug-Voosath! GREAT OLD ONE: I HAVE SUMMONED THEE
FOR A PURPOSE MOST DIRE, AND COMMAND -- [state purpose]."
Upon the completion of the task, it is up to the sorcerer to send Shug-
Voosath back whence it came using the Third Dismissal of Hloh.
O Wisp of Spirit,
Begone!
O Troubled-One,
Go in peace!
O Shade of Night,
Begone!
Commentary: The perceptive reader will notice a considerable lack of
detail in the quoted rite. It seems to have been abridged, possibly
from an earlier source. Nevertheless, this is what we have. A coveted
prize by collectors of Elder Lore!
