moratorium on all fracking related activities until the environmental, cultural and health impacts
can be properly assessed in the Chaco area and local Chapter communities
Counselor HIA-HNDA Committee has recently received approval from the NNIRB to start
conducting health impact assessments (HIA) and a Navajo-centered evaluation of the cultural
and social impacts of fracking (Hozhogo'na'ada or HNDA) in our communities. This is expected
to take one year. We respectfully request that no further fracking –related activities as
stated by President Begaye be permitted in the Mancos Shale/Gallup formation until all
RMPA and EIS and HIA-HNDA assessments are completed.
