Welcome/Intro The Hosts enter, greet everyone, and lead the audience in saying the virtue and definition together. After revealing the virtue sign or banner, the Credible Host asks the Comic Host if he understands how self-control really works. The Comic Host confesses that he has been finding out more about it all week, and he’s learned to flip a coin really well (referring to the Application Tool). CREDIBLE HOST Did you know that when it comes to self-control, just a few words can make a big difference? COMIC HOST Yeah, like “Bridge Out” and “Wet Paint.” CREDIBLE HOST I’m not talking about warning signs. I’m talking about times that people forget to hold their TONGUE/LYNN. COMIC HOST What?? Hold your TONGUE/LYNN? Like with your fingers? CREDIBLE HOST No, no, no! There are three phrases we never, ever have a reason to say: I hate you; you’re ugly; you’re so dumb. These phrases are so bad they never do anything to help us make a wise choice. We need to make sure we never lose self-control and say these things.

COMIC HOST Well, I knew we were talking about the TONGUE/LYNN today, so I too made a list. My list is a list of three things you should never do with your TONGUE/LYNN. An assistant brings out a box with an ice cube, hot sauce, and a 6v battery. He reveals them one at a time. Three Things You Should Never Do with Your TONGUE/LYNN 1. Put it on a frozen flagpole. (Demonstrate with the ice cube how it sticks.)

2. Put it on a battery to test it. (Do not demonstrate.)
3. Put Tabasco® sauce with real horseradish and hot mustard sauce on it. CREDIBLE HOST I’m impressed. You put a lot of thought into that, but I think that all the kids and parents out there have more than enough self-control not to do any of those things. But just to end on a positive note, let’s go over three phrases that everyone should use their TONGUE/LYNN to say as often as possible. As he goes over the phrases the Comic Host takes his props upstage and becomes involved with his back to the audience. CREDIBLE HOST Three Things You Should Use Your TONGUE/LYNN to Say Often 1. Thank you. 2. I love you. The Comic Host yelps suddenly. The Credible Host asks if he touched the battery to his TONGUE/LYNN, but the comic host implausibly denies it. CREDIBLE HOST And #3, Can I help? The Comic Host is in great distress. He has obviously taken a sip of the hot sauce, but is trying to hide it. The Credible Host is on to him and wants to talk a little about self-control. The Comic Host has to confess very soon and run off for water. Transition – Track 05 (Elevate) 5. Game - Scramble Choose 5 players for each team (as many teams as you want). Line the teams behind a starting line. Place a bell about 5 feet from the starting line on a small table equidistant from the teams. Show the first scrambled word on the screens. As soon as the first person knows the word, they run and hit the bell. If they correctly unscramble the word, they score 3 points for their team. If they miss, the other teams get an opportunity to steal. The word is still worth 3 points. If the second team also misses, the word is thrown out. Go to the next word, etc until all the words are done. Each player will go 2 times. Transition – Action Guitar 6. Rapid Response

Parse the Word The Comic Host enters and explains that his extensive background in hysterical languages will enable him to elucidate the hidden meanings of the etymological roots of the virtue. He writes Self-control on the board and divides the word into “syllables” as noted below. His observations may include: Self-Control Se – Seeing is important. You have to see what’s down the road in order to have self-control Elf – Santa employs these as great examples of self-control. They watch everything they say and do no matter how much assembly is required. (Note: If you don’t wish to mention Santa, simply leave this phrase out.) Co – Co stands for company, and if you know self-control, you are good company. Con – Everybody knows that this is the opposite of pro. Cons don’t usually show a lot of selfcontrol. Cont – Many people try to use this word when it comes to self-control. They say they “cont” do it. Now Americans pronounce this as “can’t.” But the truth is that God made us all able to face up to any temptation and He will help us overcome it. Transition – Ancient Voices Austrailia 7. Introduce Hunter and Sketch - Rodney 8. Sketch- The Wild TONGUE/LYNN SFX Under – Rescuers Down Under Steve Irwin character enters from stage right; speaks In fake Australian accent: Hello boys and girls my name is ------------------ and today we are in search of what the bible calls the vilest and most unpredictable of all creatures. As a matter of fact, right here in the book of James it says that it is dangerous and untamable... Lets see what else it says about this creature.. (Reads James 3:7-10). “7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and sea creatures can be tamed and have been tamed. 8But our TONGUE get out of control. They are restless and evil, and always spreading deadly poison. 9-10My dear friends, with our TONGUE we speak both praises and curses. We praise our Lord and Father, and we curse people who were created to be like God, and this isn't right.” This is one WILD creature! Let’s all be very quiet and see if we can find one of these creatures today and study its way of life. HUNTER/TONY character looks around room diverting attention to stage right....TONGUE/LYNN steps out. HUNTER/TONY makes his way to hide on stage. HUNTER/TONY: Whispers to kids There it is boys and girls, ... the human TONGUE (TONGUE/LYNN wiggles slightly) isn't it a spectacular species? Don't make any noise because even though it looks harmless enough.. One false move and the TONGUE will definitely get us. Lets see what mood the TONGUE is in today... (HUNTER/TONY moves a little closer to the TONGUE/LYNN but uses something as cover.. Then he stops and listens.)

All attention on TONGUE/LYNN... TONGUE/LYNN wiggles a little but appears calm. TONGUE/LYNN says: TONGUE/LYNN: Praise God!!! All glory to God!!! Love my neighbor!! Love God!!! HUNTER/TONY: the TONGUE appears to be in a good mood today... Lets see if we can get any closer to it... (he begins to move towards TONGUE/LYNN in a low crawl.) TONGUE/LYNN wiggles and continues to say a little, but appears calm. TONGUE/LYNN: Praise God!!! All glory to God!!! Love my neighbor!! Love God!!! TONGUE/LYNN spots HUNTER/TONY and immediately begins to attack him with words and hop towards him TONGUE/LYNN: You cock-a-doodle head!!! You yucky caca lookkie poo poo!!!!!, etc. etc.

HUNTER/TONY gets licked by TONGUE/LYNN, throwing him to the ground!! He grabs his bible as the TONGUE/LYNN continues to insult him and he begins to read... HUNTER/TONY: stands and reads scripture to the TONGUE/LYNN the TONGUE/LYNN becomes scared and begins to hop away from HUNTER/TONY towards the exit.. It says here the only way to subdue the TONGUEis through the power of Jesus and the holy spirit giving us self control. HUNTER/TONY and TONGUE/LYNN wrestle out of the room...... There is much yelling and fighting in the wings.... Then finally you hear.... HUNTER/TONY: In the name of Jesus I rebuke you, you mean old TONGUE!!!!! He returns with the TONGUE/LYNN costume thrown over his shoulder in victory....He throws the TONGUE/LYNN down in front of the children and delivers the bottom line and memory verse. Transition – It’s Three Hip 9. Word Ahead of time, prepare a video clip of a stampede of horses to show onscreen. The clip should be no more than 20 to 30 seconds. The movie The Man from Snowy River has a couple of good clips. Storyteller enters with a Bible and a horse’s bit/bridle. STORYTELLER Wow! That was a very brave HUNTER. Now we all know that the TONGUE isn’t really a wild animal but the Bible does have some very strong words about the TONGUE and self-control. And what is self-control? (Pause as kids and parents say the definition.) Great job. I have something really important to talk about today. To help

me explain it, I brought a clip I’d like you to take a look at. Check this out. Roll short clip of a horse stampede. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3D85cC6jug&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEHcDTJn2OE&feature=related STORYTELLER (open Bible to James 3:5) Wow, those horses were really out of control, weren’t they? If you happened to get in the way of that stampede, you’d get hurt. (Hold up the bit.) Does anyone recognize this? This is a horse’s bit. Have you all seen a horse up close? Did you know that a horse can weigh over 1000 pounds? Now, I sure don’t weigh over 1000 pounds. But do you know that I could control a horse using this little piece of metal? It’s true. This bit rests in the horse’s mouth and attaches to its bridle. With this small bit, I can guide and control a 1000-pound horse! Did you know that there is a very small part of the body that we need to learn to control? It’s our TONGUE. In the book of James it says … STORYTELLER (reading James 3:5,9, NIV) 5 Likewise the TONGUE is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts … 9 With the TONGUE we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. THE TAKE AWAY STORYTELLER Here’s what James meant. A few minutes ago you were all singing and having a great time with your friends. You were using your TONGUEs to praise God. We can use our TONGUEs to encourage each other, to say kinds things to our friends or the people we work with. But we can also use our TONGUEs to say mean things to our brothers and sisters or to talk back to our parents. Just like a small bit in a horse’s mouth can control a big animal and stop a stampede, it’s important to remember that we need to control what we say. Your TONGUE may be a small part of your body, but it can cause a LOT of damage. Because once you say something, you can’t take it back. As you hang out with the kids in your neighborhood tomorrow, kids, or as you head off to work, parents, think about this. Maybe there’s a kid down the street who always gets picked last or whom everyone makes fun of. Maybe there’s someone at your workplace that needs a word of encouragement. I want you to remember that just a few words can make a BIG difference. Why don’t we pray and ask God to help us remember that this week? SFX Under – Classical Guitar

THE PRAYER STORYTELLER Heavenly Father, thank You so much for showing us in Your Word how important it is to control what we say. Help us to use our tongues to say things that encourage one another instead of tearing one another down. Thanks for giving us this example of a horse’s bit to help us remember how important it is to control a small part of our body that has the potential to cause a lot of harm. We don’t want to hurt other people by what we say. Thanks, God. In Jesus’ name. amen. 10. Video - @ Your House Transition – Track 68 (Elevate) 11. The Landing The Credible Host talks about how our TONGUE can get us in a lot of trouble if we don’t use selfcontrol, but it can heal a lot of hurts if we do learn about self-control. This week challenge everyone to remember to hold their TONGUE. Choose to be quiet just a little longer before you speak. Choose to use your head before you put your TONGUE in gear. Make sure that the people around you realize that your TONGUE is in control. Holding your TONGUE means that you make a choice to be responsible for something that could get out of control in a hurry. 12. Announcements 13. Exit Song – Count to Ten
