This research was based on the fact that the “2013 Curriculum” has been
stipulated to be implemented by the ministry of education and culture. In addition,
it is considered that the curriculum is incomplete with the absence of student book
and teacher book since 1980. Until 2013, the student book available was still
integrated into physics book, so it is needed to provide a model of physics
learning package as a bridge from the implementation of the “2006 Curriculum” to
the “2013 Curriculum”. This research aims to produce physics learning package
based on scientific approach that can be used in teaching physics in order to
optimize students’ social skill, active self-supporting, and learning outcome.
The design of this research is modified four D model of Research and
Development (R & D) developed by Thiagarajan and Semmel (1974) through
three steps, i.e. define, design, and develop without large scale dissemination.
The development of learning package was carried out in cooperation with
students of physics education starting from the period of time when they
conducted practice of school experience. It was begun by deciding the form of
learning package for three topics, i.e. fluid, heat transfer, and geometrical optics
which were implemented in three different schools. The study begins with top-end
analysis, student analysis, teaching material analysis, and assignment analysis.
Next, in the step of “develop”, review of specific objectives, selection of media,
and determining of learning package were carried out. The first product was
validated by an expert and a teacher and then to be implemented in a small scale
students. Before the implementation, students were tested (pre-test). Based on
the result of small scale implementation, the product was revised and to be
implemented as a learning package in real classroom. At the end of the real
classroom teaching, students were tested again (post-test) and asked to fill in a
questionnaire regarding social skill and active self-supporting.
Result of the research shows that the products of physics learning package
developed through a series of validation process on the three topics above are
considered as feasible in the category of valid. The implementation of the learning
package in real classroom shows that it can increase students’ achievement with
moderate gain score. Besides, the result shows that there is a correlation among
social skill, active self-supporting, and learning achievement of the students. On
the basis of students’ responses, it can be said that the implementation of the
learning package in real classroom can optimize students’ social skill, active self-
supporting, and learning outcome and students respond it in high category.
