POSITION DESCRIPTION

Graduate Assistant for Undergraduate Kenan Scholars Program

Kenan Institute Background: The Kenan Institute is part of Kenan-Flagler Business School at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and draws on the School’s administrative and faculty
resources. It offers a number of programs conferences and seminars which bring together the business
and academic communities at both the state and national levels.
Through its education and research activities, the Institute will provide practical solutions to problems faced by
private enterprise, contribute to shaping business school curricula, and foster an appreciation of private
enterprise in other academic fields from which future generations of business, academic and government leaders
will emerge.

POSITION
The Kenan Scholars Program aims to expose the selected scholars to the cooperative nexus of
academia, business, and policymaking; foster independent, creative critical thinking; and actively
engage our scholars in real-world endeavors to create economic progress and to affect positive
change within the state, across the country and around the world.

The position is classified as a Graduate Assistant part-time that reports to the Kenan Scholars Director
and is open to UNC graduate and professional students. To the degree that the assistantship can be
structured to meet any requirements of the individual’s degree program, we will work with the person

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Graduate Assistant for the Undergraduate Kenan Scholars Program will have the following
responsibilities:
• Work with staff to create and administer survey instruments and evaluation tools
• Assist with preparing materials designed to communicate resources and opportunities for
current and perspective business school students
• Review, analyze and synthesize publications and other information for use in developing
student programming
• Support educational programming efforts, including planning for events and trainings
• Participate in staff and related program meetings
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience with student leadership or scholarship programs is preferred. The Graduate Assistant
for the Undergraduate Kenan Scholars Program must be able to analyze and synthesize information
from a variety of sources. Experience creating and administering survey instruments, evaluation tools
and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data required. Attention to detail as well as the ability to work
effectively both independently and with a diverse group of people are necessary skills for this position.
Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. An understanding of undergraduate
student development and the campus community is desired.

Anticipated Start date: February 26, 2018


Anticipated End date: May 11, 2018
Hours: 10 hours per week, flexible scheduling
Pay: $15-20 per hour
