A. Fluorescent Fixtures:
3. Provide ballasts class "P" manufactured for applicable indoor or outdoor use,
conforming to UL standard 935 & ANSI C82.1.
1. Provide ballasts with a power factor of 90 percent for 70 watt lamps and above.
5. The ballast, including the starter aid, shall protect itself against lamp failure modes
and shall be capable of operation with the lamp in an open or short circuit condition
for six months without accelerated loss of ballast life.
6. The lamp wattage regulation spread (as defined in ANSI 82.4 and ANSI 82.6) at
any lamp voltage, from nominal through end of rated life, shall not exceed 18%
line voltage variation.
7. The ballast primary current during starting shall not exceed normal operating
current.
9. The line power factor of the lamp/ballast system shall not drop below 90% for +
10% line voltage variations at any lamp voltage, from nominal through rated end-
of-life lamp voltage, as described in ANSI 82.6.
2.04 FIXTURES:
A. Provide fixtures with lamps of wattage to provide the required illumination level in each
area as specified.
B. Provide open tube flourescent fixtures with spring loaded telescoping sockets, self
locking sockets or two (2) lamp retainers (per lamp).
A. Provide with automatic power failure device, test switch, pilot light, and fully automatic
high/low trickle charger in a self contained power pack. Battery shall be sealed
electrolyte type, must operate unattended, and require no maintenance, including
additional water, for a period of 5 years.
A. Provide fixtures and heads as indicated. Provide units with brown out sensitive circuit to

delay feature for areas with HID lighting.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
A. Provide all material, equipment and labor to install all conduit, wire, mountings, fixture
types and lamp sizes as indicated and as specified.
C. Suspend pendant fixtures by means of outlet box with cover-type aligners, each having
flexible joint permitting unit to hang plumb.
F. Install each explosion-proof pendant fixture having stem longer than 300 mm., with
explosion-proof swivel or flexible fitting permitting fixture to hang plumb. Fixtures with
stems shorter than 300 mm can be aligned by leveling the outlet box mounting,
explosion-proof swivels.
H. Install accessories such as straps, mounting plates, nipples, or brackets for installation.
Mounting heights specified or indicated must be to bottom of fixture for ceiling mounted
fixtures and to center of fixture for wall mounted fixtures. Obtain the exact mounting for

mounting with the type, style, and pattern of the ceiling being installed.Where unistrut or
channel type mounting supports for lighting fixtures are provided, the unistrut supports
shall not be used as a raceway for the fixture wiring. Separate conduit and boxes shall be
provided to form an independent interconnecting wiring system for the fixtures. All
support systems must be grounded in accordance with Massachusetts Electrical Code
requirements. All support systems shall be Type 316 stainless steel with stainless steel
hardware.
I. Connect emergency light fixtures within an area to the same circuit supplying power to
the normal light fixtures within that area. Connect emergency light fixtures to the circuit
before the light switch for normal lighting.
