ADDITIONAL EVALUATION STUDENTS’ GUIDELINES FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Please, do check Official Rubrics and Scheduled Class Days of these activities in our PAIDEIA
IDIOMAS and pay close attention to your teacher’s instructions and guidance. These are activities
organized on fixed days that cannot be re-scheduled. If you fail to participate in any of the activities,
you will get a “0” grade on that specific activity.

The 4th additional grade will be made up of (3) three items described in this document.

A. Graded Book Writing Task (GBWT) – (Task performed in class, based on the first unit)

Aim:

- Demonstrate written competence in different genres, based on the aims and proposals designed
in section D of the 1st unit of each intermediate and advanced course.

Description:

- The Graded Book Writing Task takes place in a fixed day stated in your monthly planner. Remind
students that the activity is taken under exam conditions and it cannot be re-scheduled. Therefore,
students, who are not present on the set day, will get “0” as grade.

- Students will be reminded of this activity on the first day of classes.

- On the day assigned for this task, students should come to class with a printed Template (available
in PAIDEA EMPOWER) and their GBWT Portfolio. GWT portfolio is a file where they collect previous
GWT.

- To get a clear idea of what is expected and how the task will be assessed, students and teachers
need to be familiar with the Official Rubric (available in PAIDEIA). Rubrics include Content,
Organization and Cohesion, Language, Style & Register as well as Task Achievement.

- The day of the writing task, teacher and students will carry out activities suggested in lesson D of
the first unit of the course. Then students will complete the task in no more than 40 minutes (GWT
under exam conditions).

B: CLMS: 50% UPT or Competency tests - 50% workbook performance (Graded from 0-4)

– CLMS which will help you develop your skills and get a personalized learning path according to
your own language needs. CLMS follows an adaptive approach, so make full, efficient use of it.

- Get familiar with how to access and use the CLMS products by watching the Instructional Video on
our web Page. Your teacher will assess and help you in the process.

- Your teachers will create your CLMS class according to the fixed days instructed in the table. You
have to join the CLMS class to let the system keep record of your participation, performance and
grades. Get familiar with the information shown below:

Superintensive 3rd day of class 16th day of class

Note: * Grades will not be generated in your CLMS class once it is locked and closed. Once classes
are locked and closed in the CLMS, you will be able to see your grades in your CLMS class when you
access it from the “Finished Classes” tab.

- You are expected to have a constant access to the CLMS, according to your teacher’s instructions
and course planner. This is important since CLMS is 33.3% of the additional grade.

- In addition to the online practice activities of the CLMS, there are two (2) evaluated activities that
will help you test your own progress: These are the Unit Progress Tests, a Mid-Course Competency
Tests , or an End-of-Course Competency Tests

 The Unit Progress Tests are evaluated at the end of each and it takes 30 minutes. These
tests can be taken up to two (2) times. The system will register the highest score. After
the first attempt, you will have the chance to review your weaknesses and it is highly
advisable to take it again to improve your scoring. The second time you take a Unit
Progress Tests, the areas of evaluation will only be the ones where you had problems
the first time.

 In some other courses, instead of a second Unit Progress Test, there would be a Mid-
Course Competency Test (in the middle unit of the book). In other cases, there would
2

be an End-of-Course Competency Test (In the last unit of the book). They both evaluate
your progress according to the Common European Framework Reference for languages
(CERF). This time you will have access to take them only once. These tests take an hour,
and immediately after the test, they will be able to see their final scoring in the
platform.

 Remember that while your workbook online practice can be accessed from any
mobile device such a smart phone or tablet, these tests can only be taken using a PC
or Laptop

- 50% of CLMS grade will be based on student’s results in the workbook online activities and the
other 50% on the results of your Unit Progress tests/ or Unit Progress Test + Mid-Competency test
or Unit Progress test + Competency test . All assessed activities are mandatory and should be
done timely and progressively. The CLMS grade book will show the corresponding score.

- At the end of every unit, you have to take a Progress Test. The system allows you to improve your
grade by letting a second chance to take it; right after remedial work has taken place.

- The final grade should be taken from the final percentage-course grade that your CLMS Gradebook
will register up to the 15th day of Monday to Friday classes or before the 8th day of Saturday classes.

- In Superintensive or Intensive frequencies, ask your Teacher.

- Your teacher will use this conversion table to award you a final grade for the CLMS result:

Example: Gradebook Score = 72%; your grade will be 2

Range of results Equivalence 0-4

90% - 100% 4

80% - 89% 3

70% - 79% 2

50% - 69% 1

0% - 49% 0

C. PECHA KUCHA Research Project Task (Task performed in class)

Aim:

- Have students deliver high impact presentations based on up-to-date information about topics
related to the first two units of the course, showing competence in integrated skills (listening and
reading along with speaking).

Description:
3

- The PechaKucha Research Project Task is a group project of up to 3 students. It takes place
on the 16th day in the daily regular program (the day before the exam) or the 8th day of the
Saturday program. (Check your Class Monthly Planner). It cannot be re-scheduled (Students
who do not show on the set day get a “0”).

- Students should select a topic covered during the course, and make a high impact
presentation.
- Rubrics include Analysis & Synthesis, Organization, Visual Appeal and Creativity,
Preparation and Presentation Skills. This information is detailed in the official rubric for
further feedback and grading posted on PAIDEIA. Therefore, students and teachers have a
clear idea of what is expected and how the job will be assessed.
- Students will be assessed, based on the determined grading criteria and their understanding
of the task. Demands on format differ from II1 to II6 to II7 to II12.
- Students should be aware of this activity format and date as well as the rubric, since the
first day of class
- On the day assigned for this task, students should come to class with appropriate material
and well-prepared. The order of presentation will be at random (a raffle is suggested), so all
the students must be on time. Whoever arrives late will miss the chance to present the
activity.
- All information presented must be correctly quoted and sources should be mentioned in a
summary template that has to be handed in to their teachers. Students must avoid
plagiarism. The quotes and sources template is posted on PAIDEIA.
- At the end of each presentation, the teacher may randomly ask (a) student(s) to ask the
group a question. Therefore, students’ attention and involvement in the presentation is a
must.

Overall Expected Timing of the Activity: 90 minutes all class presentations.

 From Intermediate 1 to Intermediate 6, each group presentation must include 15 slides or

pictures. Each slide must be displayed for no more than 30 seconds. Therefore, the overall
presentation per group should not exceed from 7 minutes and 30 seconds.
 From Intermediate 7 to Intermediate 12, each group presentation must include 20 slides
or pictures. Each slide must be displayed for no more than 20 seconds. Therefore, the
overall presentation should not exceed from 6 minutes and 40 seconds (which is the
worldwide format)

Since this is a high impact presentation, students must be careful on the quality of delivery (Check
the following website as a reference: http://www.pechakucha.org ). They will be graded based on
how well they engage their audience and their Analysis & Synthesis, Organization, Visual Appeal,
Preparation and Presentation Skills, which are detailed in the official rubric for this activity.
