He has extensive experience advising boards of directors, and generally representin g domestic and international debtors and creditors in complex workout, insolvenc y, restructuring, and bankruptcy planning matters. Mr. Sprayregen has been recognized as one of the top restructuring lawyers in th e world by many leading publications. In March 2010, The National Law Journal se lected Mr. Sprayregen as one of "The Decade's Most Influential Lawyers." From 2006-2008, Mr. Sprayregen served as co-head of Goldman Sach's Restructuring Group and advised clients in restructuring and distressed situations. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Sprayregen spent 16 years at Kirkland & Ellis. He rej oined the Restructuring Group at Kirkland & Ellis in December 2008. Mr. Sprayregen has recently represented numerous multinational public and privat e corporations in many of the country's largest out-of-court restructuring matte rs and Chapter 11 cases, including the following: •Visteon Corporation, a Fortune 500 global automotive supplier that designs and ma nufactures climate, interior, electronic and lighting products for vehicle manuf acturers, in its Chapter 11 reorganization. Located in 27 countries, Visteon rep
orted $9.5 billion in revenue in 2008 with approximately 31,000 employees. •GGPLP L.L.C., and certain of its affiliates, in their Chapter 11 reorganization. GGP and its consolidated affiliates reported approximately $29.6 billion in tot al assets and $27.3 billion in total liabilities as of December 31, 2008. Throu gh its affiliates, GGP owns and manages more than 200 regional shopping centers and other properties across 44 states. These filings constitute the largest Cha pter 11 cases undertaken by a real estate investment trust in U.S. history. Kir kland is advising certain of the filing entities with respect to various aspects of their reorganization. •Lear Corporation, a leading global supplier of seating systems, electrical distri bution systems, and electronics to the automotive industry, in its prearranged C hapter 11 reorganization. With 2008 net sales of $13.6 billion, Lear employs mor e than 80,000 individuals at 210 facilities in 36 countries around the world. •Japan Airlines Corporation, Asia's largest air carrier with a fleet of more than 270 aircraft, as international restructuring counsel advising JAL on all aspects of the restructuring of its global operations and representing it in connection with Chapter 15 cases pending before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. JAL, headquartered in Tokyo, maintained $28 billion in de bt at the time of its filing and operates over 900 daily flights from over 60 ai rports in Japan and provides international flight services to 11 million interna tional passengers in 34 countries each year. •UAL Corp., the world's second largest airline, and certain affiliates, in all asp ects of its complex Chapter 11 reorganization proceedings. The United case is am ong the largest bankruptcy cases ever filed, and included the restructuring of l eases and mortgages on approximately 450 aircraft which resulted in approximatel y $850 million of annual savings, the restructuring of $1.7 billion in municipal bond obligations, and the restructuring of multibillions of dollars in labor an d pension agreements. •Conseco, Inc., and certain of its subsidiaries, in what has been reported as the seventh largest Chapter 11 filing in history. This extremely complicated case in volved the heavily-regulated industries of finance, banking and insurance. After conducting a lengthy and spirited auction, Kirkland received court approval for the sale of the assets of the finance subsidiaries for more than $1 billion in cash. In addition, Kirkland negotiated the restructuring of the holding company debtors, which own the insurance subsidiaries. Only months into the case, Kirkla nd filed Chapter 11 plans of reorganization and the company emerged from bankrup tcy in 2003. Mr. Sprayregen is a frequent lecturer and speaker, and also has published numero us articles on insolvency, fiduciary duty and distressed M&A issues. He also ser ved for three years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Chicago Booth S chool of Business and for one year as an Adjunct Professor at New York Universit y School of Law.
