thesis was intended in fulfilling one of the requirements to get the title as scholar

education of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University, English Education Study Program

ABSTRACT

Nurliana. 13231101. Factors Influencing The Lack of Students’ Interest in


Learning English at The Second Grade Students of SMPN 4 Baubau. Under
Consultans: BaharudinAdu, S.Pd., M.Pd. and Rizal Arisman, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The problem statements of this research was: What are factors influencing
the lack of students’ interest in learning English at the second grade students of
SMPN 4 Baubau?.The objective of this research was to know what factors
influencing the lack of students’ interest in learning English at the second grade
students of SMPN 4 Baubau.
The population of this research was all students at the second grade of
SMPN 4 Baubau in school year of 2017/2018. The total of population were 432
students that were spread into 18 classes and each class had about 23 students.
The sample of the research was taken by using the purposive sampling. The
instrument used in this research was (1)test, (2) questionnaire and (3)interview.
The test was used to measure the students’ ability, while the questionnaire and
interview were used to know the factors influencing the lack of students’ interest
in learning English at second grade students of SMPN 4 Baubau.
The finding of the resarch were as follows the mean score result of
students’ test was 63.91 with moderate category, and the mean score result of
students’ was 65.78 with moderate category too. Beside that, the factors
influencing the lack students’ interest in learning English were as follows the
students had less readiness in learning, the students were bored when the teacher
explains the material very much, the students had less participation in learning
process and the students had less attention during learning process.
