Car Tutorial 1. You will need background fabric, in this case tan, a color for the body of the car, a small piece for the window, and a black fabric with white dots for the wheels. You will also use a small piece of fusible web.
Rough cut pieces for the top of the car, the window, the body of the car and surrounding strips of background fabric.
Sew together a rectangle of the car fabric and a rectangle ofthe window fabric.
At an angle, sew strips of background material to the left and right sides of the unit you just made. See photo below. This will form the top section of the car.
Sew a strip of the background fabric across the top of the unit you made in the previous strip. You can cut the edge straight before or after you sew on the tan strip. There will be lots of trimming, so keep a mat and rotary cutter next to your machine if you have room.
Trim straight across the bottom of that unit. Next, sew a tan rectangle onto the left and right sides of a blue rectangle, to form the body of the car. Trim the top edge straight. Audition how you want this unit to join to the top of the car.
Sew the top of the car and the bottom of the car together. It’s taking shape now!
Trim the bottom of the car straight across and sew another tan strip onto the bottom.
Square up and trim your block.
10. Now it’s time to the make the wheels. Draw a circle onto a piece of fusible web. I traced a spool of thread.
11. Iron these onto the back of your polkadot fabric, centering a white dot in each circle.
12. Cut out and fuse onto your car. And you’re done! When I have several blocks completed I will stitch around each wheel using a blanket stitch and black thread, which will give the appearance of tread on the tires.
