LITERATURE COMPONENT
(NOVEL) GUIDE

Prepared by : Puan Rosidah bt Ramli

 The literature component is based on five novels you studied in
form 2 and 3.

 A general subjective question on the aspect of the novel will be

asked such as themes, character, setting and so on.

 Read the novel and take note of the setting, characters, events,
themes and messages/moral values of the story.

 Read the question carefully and identify what you should write
on. Remember to give evidence from the novel.

 Usually, in the introduction, we mention about the novel we

choose and its writer. Then, write on the topic that you choose.

 Give at least 3 evidences. Elaborate on each evidence to get

higher marks.

 For the conclusion, we can use :

- In short
- In a nutshell

 Question 1 : Based on one of the novels, describe about a heroic character
from the novel that you have read.
Introduction :
Sean - Patrick’s best friend - uphold a heroic
action throughout the story

Conclusion :
From Sean - I learn a lot of good values -
teaches me to be a better person - that is why I
choose him as the hero in this novel
Reason 1 :
Brave enough to carry an old rusty axe -
trying to stop Mr Graystone & his men from
destroying Skullgogragh - I learn to be a
brave person who will stand for my rights
Reason 2 :
Driven by a strong will of desperate & revenge
- willing to put his life at risk by robbing
and killing Mr Graystone - two wolfhounds
gave the money to Patrick - ship tickets to
America - a better life - though he didn’t have
the chance to fulfill his dream, he had helped
Patrick and Marie - I learn that we should
be helpful to others
Reason 3 :
Willing to sacrifice for the sake of his friends -
caught by the British soldiers - didn’t reveal
Patrick’s name - he knew he would be dead in
the hangman noose - I learn that in
friendship, we should be willing to sacrifice for
our friends

Introduction :
One should be helpful to others
Reason 1 :
Patrick
 helped the people of Skullgoragh to
monitor for Mr Graystone and his men -
ordered by Lord Egham to destroy the
village - could not pay for the rent -
 - shared his bread with Marie -
total strangers - became a good friend
 did not hesitate to help Sean - putting
himself in a hot soup for that - stopped
by Marie
